Kalmar STS for Curaçao Port Services

Kalmar, part of Cargotec has signed a contract for supplying two Kalmar Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, including related spare parts, to Curaçao Port Services, said a press release.The Panamax size cranes will be used for modernising the customer's container handling operations at the Willemstad Container Terminal in Curaçao. The order was booked into Cargotec's 2018 third quarter order intake, and the delivery is planned to be completed by the end of 2019. The island of Curaçao is located strategically in the Southern Caribbean approximately 35 miles off the northwestern coast of Venezuela. The Port of Willemstad is the main and largest port of the island. Currently, Curaçao Port Services B.V.

Floating Docks Arrive at Damen's Curaçao Yard

Two floating docks have completed their 26-day voyage across the North Atlantic to Damen Shiprepair Curaçao (DSCu) in the southern Caribbean.The larger of the two is a Panamax-class dock measuring 230 meters by 45 meters for tankers, containerships and other large vessels, while the smaller dock measures 108 meters by 23 meters for all kinds of tugs, workboats and offshore support and anchor handling vessels.The two docks were delivered by the heavy-lift carrier Xin Guang Hua to the Port of Willemstad, Curaçao on April 26, following a trip with more than its share of bad weather.

Panama Canal, Curaçao Ports Partnership

On February 4, Panama Canal Authority (ACP) Administrator/CEO Alberto Alemán Zubieta and Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) General Managing Director Richard Julius López Ramírez signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly foster commercial activity between the two entities. Renewable on a two-year basis, the MOU aims to generate new business in tourism and trade for each country’s continued economic growth. As part of the MOU, the ACP and CPA will undertake a series of activities to promote the oceanic exchange of goods including joint advertisements…

Grandeur Of The Seas Loses Power Near Curacao

The Royal Caribbean International cruise ship Grandeur of the Seas experienced a loss of electrical power while approximately 7.5 miles outside of Curacao. "The ship's 2,040 guests and 842 crew members are in no danger," said Jack Williams, president of Royal Caribbean International. "Their safety and comfort are our first concerns. After the outage, the four-year-old ship was functioning on emergency generators. Air conditioning, lighting and plumbing functions were fully restored soon after. The company coordinated with local marine officials to have tugs tow the ship to the port of Willemstad, Curacao. Additional marine operations personnel are being flown on a chartered jet to Curacao to assist with repairs.
