VeChain Inks Blockchain Deal for Chinese LNG Solution

Chinese enterprise blockchain company VeChain announced a deal for a liquified natural gas (LNG) management solution that will leverage the VeChainThor Blockchain.The partners are two of the leading Chinese energy and gas companies, ENN Energy Holdings and state-owned Shanghai Gas.In the introduced solution, ENN Energy Holdings Limited is responsible for the design and system construction of LNG-related business scenarios and is providing the necessary vehicles/equipment.In the pilot rollout of this solution, ENN Energy Holdings Limited will provide the onsite technical team and testing locations working within their existing businesses.

Synectics Shows Offshore Success with Multiple Vessel Contracts

Global surveillance business Synectics has been awarded contracts for ten marine and offshore vessels including LNG Carriers, LPG Carriers and Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs). Scheduled for construction in South Korea and China, the international vessels will all be equipped with end-to-end surveillance solutions comprising Synectics’ COEX camera stations, Synergy command and control functionality, and tailored integrations. Yard Improvements at Grand Bahama Shipyard

Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited (GBSL), a shipyard in the Caribbean, said it had a productive summer program consisting of work on vessels from the tanker, container and towage segments of the maritime industry. Additionally, renovations and upgrades were performed on the floating dry docks and workshops, all in conjunction with yard improvements in anticipation for a busy fall and winter work period. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Goes for External Commercial Borrowing

India’s premier container port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Navi Mumbai, has signed an agreement with State Bank of India and Development Bank of Singapore for External Commercial Borrowing (ECBB) to the tune of USD 400 Million at a “very competitive” interest rate to improve the infrastructure required for “doubling” its existing capacity to 9.85 Million TEUs annually. The ECB of USD 400 Million ( USD300 Million from the SBI & USD100 from DBS) will be primarily utilised by the JNPT, which has US Dollar denominated foreign currency earnings which can be leveraged for a low cost foreign currency borrowing, for expansion of its existing roads network connecting to its port project as the existing road network for evacuation of traffic is currently operated at a capacity utilisation of 100%.

NYK Selects INTTRA eVGM Service

INTTRA, the world's ocean shipping electronic marketplace, and NYK Line, informed that NYK has joined the rapidly growing INTTRA eVGM network for facilitating compliance with new container weight requirements adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which went into effect on July 1, 2016. NYK is offering the INTTRA eVGM Service to customers as one solution via which they can exchange and process the container weight information required to meet the IMO's Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Verified Gross Mass (VGM) requirement. Under SOLAS VGM, every container must have a VGM - or certified weight - to be loaded onto a ship.

Argentinian Center Installs Engine Room Simulator

Buenos Aires, Argentina. Transas Marine has delivered its leading Engine Room Simulator ERS 5000 TechSim to the Center for Marine Engineer Officers and Chief Engineers in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Center for Marine Engineer Officers and Chief Engineers is the corporate and trade association that brings together Merchant Navy Officers specialising in machinery. These professionals are responsible for the operation, maintenance, management and troubleshooting of all technical elements on merchant ships. The simulator complex consists of a classroom for training in diesel propulsion, steam and ASD tug plants with eight workstations, a classroom for training in refrigerating plants operation with four trainee workstations.

Entries Sought for SHIPPINGInsight Award

Entries are now being accepted for the 2015 SHIPPINGInsight Award, which will be presented at the SHIPPINGInsight Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition, Oct. 13 in Stamford, Conn. The annual award honors a ship operating company and its technology partners for the successful implementation of an innovative technology or initiative that advances the state-of-the-art in ship and fleet optimization. A panel of independent judges will review entries and select the winner. The award will be presented at a gala awards luncheon on the opening day of the conference. Award submissions should be in the form of a case study. Projects must have been completed within calendar year 2014 or 2015. The entry may be submitted by either the fleet operator or its technology suppliers.

Ingalls Awards Nearly $108,000 in School Grants

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division has awarded nearly $108,000 in grants for 25 different projects from schools and educational organizations in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The grants, which were requested by all of the organizations, will be used for projects associated with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This is the sixth year for Ingalls' STEM program. The company has awarded more than $500,000 for STEM-related projects during that period.

Emerson Wins Shell Prelude UPS Contract

Emerson Network Power, a US-based Emerson business, says it has been selected as the main uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems provider for Shell’s Prelude FLNG project, the world’s first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project, currently under construction in Korea for deployment to the Browse Basin off the coast of Western Australia. Emerson Network Power explain that they will help provide reliable standby power for critical process functions, such as the main automation systems, fire and gas detection systems, and telecommunications.

MOL Installs Ballast Water Treatment System on VLCC

In front of the VLCC Libra Trader, which recently had a new ballast water treatment system installed, representatives of the vessel’s management company, MOL Tankship Management (Asia) Pte Ltd., and the shipyard pose for a commemorative shot.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. announced completion of work to install a ballast water treatment system on the very large crude oil carrier (VLCC) Libra Trader at Keppel Shipyard in Singapore. On January 10, the company announced plans to install the system on a VLCC ahead of IMO installation compulsion. MOL is the first Japanese shipping company to install such a system for existing VLCC. Keppel Shipyard has timely delivered the vessel as committed and Libra Trader has already returned to service, and the ballast water treatment system will be tested and adjusted during operation.

RINA and IB Partner for Ship Management Software Suite

Rickmers-Linie Successfully Recertified

Rickmers-Linie GmbH & Cie KG, Hamburg, which specializes in worldwide ocean transportation of break bulk, heavy lifts and project cargoes has successfully undergone the process of recertification according to the latest ISO Standards ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2009 and OHSAS 18001:2007. The certificates for the integrated quality management system, which encompasses the three segments Quality, Occupational Health and Safety as well as the Environment, are again valid for three years, until 29 November 2015. Rickmers-Linie is still one of the few companies in the breakbulk, heavy lift and projects sector that has adopted an integrated management system according to the three aforementioned certification standards.

BP Selects Offshore Automation Contractor of Choice

Emerson will be BP’s preferred supplier of integrated control and safety systems for five offshore fields in the U.K. continental shelf, including the new Clair Ridge platforms and the Quad 204 floating production, storage and offloading vessel. Emerson’s selection as contractor of choice builds on an earlier agreement in which the company was named a Main Automation Contractor for BP projects globally. By standardizing on a single contractor for its North Sea region, BP expects to gain significant benefits including efficient project execution, training, maintenance and support.
