Egypt Seeks Release of Four Citizens on Tanker Seized by Iran

Egypt said on Wednesday that it is working on securing the release of four citizens who were detained by Iran last month after Tehran seized a foreign tanker on charges of carrying "smuggled fuel" in the Gulf.In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry said four Egyptian crew members were currently on board the Reem alKhaleej vessel at Iran's Bandar Abbas port.Iran said last month that it had seized a foreign oil tanker carrying 4 million litres of smuggled fuel near the Iranian island of Qeshm in the Gulf.

Iran has seized a foreign oil tanker near the Iranian island of Qeshm in the Gulf, saying it was carrying 4 million litres of smuggled fuel, state media reported on Friday.Authorities did not name the vessel or disclose its nationality. They said 16 foreign crew members had been detained on criminal charges.

Iran-Muscat Ferry Soon

U.S. Unsure About Details of Tanker Towed to Iran

U.S. officials say they are unsure whether an oil tanker towed into Iranian waters was seized by Iran or rescued after facing mechanical faults as Tehran asserts, creating a mystery at sea at a time of high tension in the Gulf.The MT Riah disappeared from ship tracking maps when its transponder was switched off in the Strait of Hormuz on July 14. 109 Vessels Ready for Iranian New Year

Fincantieri Inks Shipbuilding Deals with Iran

Shipbuilding group Fincantieri said it has signed a number of framework agreements with some primary Iranian companies. The preliminary understandings were reached in the presence of the Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani on an official visit in Italy and are prior to the accomplishment of several contracts worth some hundred million euros and to the potential development of joint activities, the shipbuilder said. Iran Seizes Cargo Ship

Iran seized a Western commercial cargo ship in the Persian Gulf early Tuesday and ordered it to sail into Iranian territorial waters. Pentagon says MV Maersk Tigris, which was thought to have entered Iranian waters, was intercepted by Iranian vessel – but did not belong to US. Warning shots were fired but no injuries were reported, a shipping agency said. Thirty-four crew members were reported aboard. There are no Americans in the crew of more than 30 aboard the container ship Maersk Tigris, defense officials said, and the vessel is registered in the Marshall Islands. The Iranian navy seized the ship at the request of the Iran Ports Authority under a court order, according to the English service of Iran's Fars News Agency.

Iranian Forces Fire On, Board Cargo Ship in Gulf

Iranian forces boarded a Marshall Islands-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf on Tuesday after patrol boats fired warning shots across its bow and ordered it deeper into Iranian waters, the Pentagon said. U.S. planes and a destroyer were monitoring the situation after the vessel, the MV Maersk Tigris, made a distress call in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping channels. Iran's Tasnim news agency quoted an unidentified source who sought to play down the incident, saying it was a civil matter with no military or political dimension.

UANI Urges Italian Ship Operator to Desist in Iran Trade

United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) called on Italy’s Ignazio Messina & Co. SpA, the world’s second largest roll-on/roll-off tanker operator, to immediately end its Iran operations. First Offshore Bunkering Service Launched

Iran has launched its first offshore bunkering service at an anchorage south of the Qeshm island free trade zone in the Gulf. Singapore-based Global Energy provides the services in cooperation with the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) and National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). Ahmad Hakim, a senior official in Qeshm, said that the floating anchorage, set up nine miles southwest of Qeshm, had begun its services earlier this month, having already fuelled several international tankers. Located near the main shipping lanes in the Gulf, the new anchorage has a capacity of four billion tons. Hakim said services would remain on a small scale until more business is attracted. He said the island planned to offer other shipping services such as food and water delivery and those for crew change.

China to Construct Shipbuilding Yard in Qeshm

China has expressed its strong interest in having a widespread presence in investment projects in Iran, of which, a shipbuilding complex contract in Qeshm Free Trade Zone (QFTZ) will soon reach the final agreement, a member of ICCIM?s (Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines) Board of Directors Daneshmand announced on Wednesday.
