AAM Delivers Survey Vessel for NV5-Geodynamics

Bellingham, Wash. shipbuilder All American Marine (AAM) announced it has delivered a new research and hydrographic survey vessel for NV5-Geodynamics. The vessel was sea-trialed on Bellingham Bay, prior to shipping via cargo ship to its homeport of Beaufort, N.C.Built to service the growing offshore wind market as well as accomplish many other scientific survey missions, Shackleford is a 73- by 26.7-foot semi-displacement aluminum catamaran developed by Nic de Waal of Teknicraft Design in Auckland, New Zealand.

AET Grows in Brazil

With the ongoing development of deepwater pre-salt plays and a decreased demand on local content in tankers and other vessels, Brazilian national operator Petrobras and other super-majors have been looking abroad for better rates and reliable operators of shuttle tankers. Claudio Paschoa, Maritime Reporterā€™s correspondent in Brazil spoke to Peter Liew, Global Director ā€“ Mid Size Tankers, Crude Shipping, about AET Tankersā€™ history and its operations in Brazil.AET (formerly American Eagle Tankers) was founded in Houston in 1994 primarily to conduct lightering operations in the Gulf of Mexico. The companyā€™s fleet grew to 32 vessels (mainly Aframax tankers but also two VLCCs) by 2003, when acquired by MISC Berhad.

Fusing its decades of experience within the development of in-house GNSS and inertial technology, Kongsberg has created a cutting-edge integrated solution for DP reference applications. DPS i2 and DPS i4 are fully scalable DP reference solutions that improve operational efficiency and safety for high-precision applications. The new integrated solution has been in operation aboard the OSV Bourbon Arctic in Northern Norway for the past six months. DPS i2 and DPS i4 utilize Kongsbergā€™s motion gyro compass (MGCTM) and motion reference unit (MRUTM) technology.

Kongsberg Maritimeā€™s new training portal provides information on course content, pre-requisites and assessment information, as well as duration and cost. C-NAV Upgrades DP Vessel Software

C-Nav, a division of C & C Technologies an Oceaneering International Company providing dynamic DGNSS Precise Point Positioning systems, has introduced a newly upgraded version of its C-Scape software. C-Scape provides independent, real-time monitoring of dynamic positioning (DP) systems, while simultaneously providing operations overview of other vessels infield and subsea infrastructures via multilayer AutoCAD files. C-Scape blends multiple sensor inputs for position quality assurance/quality control and is suitable for most dynamically positioned vessels, including drilling rigs and ships.

DP System Donated to NTNU Research Vessel

Kongsberg Maritime has donated and installed a K-Pos Dynamic Positioning System aboard the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) owned R/V Gunnerus research vessel. The donation and KONGSBERGā€™s continued support of the University was recognized at a VIP ceremony at the NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, yesterday (14th April 2015). In operation for NTNU since 2006, R/V Gunnerus is equipped with the latest technology for a variety of research activities within biology, technology, geology, archaeology, oceanography and fisheries.

Kongsberg Technology for Pioneering Spirit

Following its inauguration ceremony in Rotterdam on February 27, 2015, Allseasā€™ Pioneering Spirit will start its first job offshore Norway this summer with an integrated Dynamic Positioning (DP) and manoeuvring system based on state-of-the art Kongsberg Maritime technology. The Kongsberg Maritime delivery includes forward and aft bridge systems in addition to an extensive automation network and the HiPAP subsea position reference system. Eight years in the making, Allseasā€™ Pioneering Spirit single-lift vessel is the largest construction vessel in the world.

BMT Group Finalizes Purchase of NavCon

Maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy BMT Group Ltd. has agreed to purchase Navegação e Controle Indústria e Comércio Ltda (NavCon), a Brazilian specialist in monitoring systems for the offshore oil and gas industry.   BMT Scientific Marine Services Ltda was previously a minority stakeholder in NavCon. This new agreement fully integrates NavCon into the BMT group of companies, and the companyā€™s name has officially changed to BMT NavCon Ltda.   NavCon was founded in 1998 and is located in the technological site of São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Brazil. The company specializes in data acquisition and motion monitoring systems, navigation and heading reference systems, and GNSS receivers for offshore, air, land and space applications.

C-MAR's Modern Approach to DP Training in Brazil

The modern offshore maritime industry heavily relies on different classes of DP vessels, from OSVs to Drillships and Tankers, almost all vessels serving the oil and gas industry need to be DP capable in order to safely operate offshore. The massive growth experienced in Brazil due to the uncorking of huge deepwater pre-salt plays has caused a steady demand for new ships, rigs and vessels, maritime officers and DP operators in the country. KVH Precision Sensors for Geodetics' Inertial Navigation Systems

KVH Industries entered into a strategic partnership with Geodetics Inc., a leader in the development of real-time, high-precision position and navigation solutions. The goal is to provide high performance positioning and navigation products for commercial applications requiring high levels of precision, from unmanned platforms to terrestrial navigation. Geodetics is integrating the KVH 1750 inertial measurement unit (IMU) into two solutions: Geo-INAV Advanced, a GPS-aided inertial navigation system; and Geo-ReINAV, a high-accuracy relative navigation, positioning, and orientation system. Kongsberg Technology Chosen for 10 Petrobas Newbuilds

Kongsberg Maritime inform it has been contracted to deliver substantial technology packages for ten new pipelaying vessels ordered by Brazilian multinational energy corporation, Petrobras. In contracts valued approx. NOK 118 Million, the scope of supply includes Kongsberg Maritime's leading offshore vessel technology including Dynamic Positioning (DP), position reference systems, propulsion control and automation. Six 550-tonne laying tension capacity pipelayers will be built at IHC Merwede in The Netherlands for delivery in 2015 and 2016.

Kongsberg to Equip 10 Newbuild Pipelayers

Kongsberg Maritime has been chosen to deliver substantial technology packages for ten new pipelaying vessels ordered by Brazilian multinational energy corporation, Petrobras. In contracts valued approx. NOK 118 Million, the scope of supply includes Kongsberg Maritimeā€™s offshore vessel technology including Dynamic Positioning (DP), position reference systems, propulsion control and automation. Six 550-tonne laying tension capacity pipelayers will be built at IHC Merwede in The Netherlands for delivery in 2015 and 2016. Three of the vessels, for Subsea 7, are identical designs to the recently launched ā€˜Seven Wavesā€™, and will feature the same K-POS DP22 dual redundant DP system including HiPAP acoustic positioning system and other position reference systems from Kongsberg Maritime.

Stanford Hawk to Support Total E&P

Stanford Marine announced from its Dubai headquarters that it has secured a five-year contract with Total E&P Angola for Stanford Hawk, the latest addition to its fleet. Total E&P Angola (TEPA) awarded Stanford Marine a five-year contract, with two two-year options, scheduled to commence by the beginning of February 2014. The Stanford Hawk will be supporting the process and storage activities of TEPA, by transporting personnel and cargo, as well as assisting in safety standby duties.

Student Challenge: Control Airship Using Offshore DP Technology

KONGSBERG has introduced a new student project called 'Zeppaloon' which provides students with the opportunity to resolve a complex technological task during the summer months of 2014. The assignment for the 'Zeppaloon' project is to develop a scaled unmanned airship to simulate the dynamic positioning technology that KONGSBERG uses to operate offshore vessels in challenging conditions. The challenge involves developing a prototype with sub systems such as; software, sensors and reference systems, thruster and power management and control algorithms.

iXBlue to Supply Gyrocompass Systems to RFA Tankers

iXBlue announced it is to supply QUADRANS fiber-optic gyrocompass systems for installation aboard the four new Tide Class tankers of the U.K. Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA). The systems to be supplied to Kelvin Hughes Limited will be integrated as a sub-system of the Integrated Bridge Systems for delivery to Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea where the vessels are under construction. Kongsberg's New DP Simulator DNV Certified

Kongsberg Maritime informs that its latest version of K-Sim DP, a Dynamic Positioning (DP) Manoeuvring simulator, has received Class A Certification from Det Norske Veritas (DNV). This makes it compliant with the highest DNV standard for DP simulators according to Standard of Certification of Maritime Simulators number 2.14 (January 2011). The manufacturers explain that the K-Sim DP Manoeuvring is the most advanced in a long line of Dynamic Positioning simulators developed by Kongsberg Maritime.

Kongsberg Contracted for Four Drillships and Six Options

Kongsberg was awarded an offshore integrated monitoring and control system contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). The contract covers deliveries to four Transocean owned newbuild drillships, with an option for Kongsberg to deliver products and services for six more drillships. "We call this a 'full picture' solution, as it includes dynamic positioning, position reference systems, thruster control, integrated automation systems, riser management and environmental monitoring within the same project.
