Höegh LNG, RMU Sign MoU on LNG Capacity Building
The Regional Maritime University in Ghana (RMU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Höegh LNG, a major player in the LNG segment of the maritime industry, for the support and maritime capacity development for both RMU and Ghanaian seafarers. Quantum Power Ghana is also party to the MoU, which was signed 16 June 2017. Höegh LNG is one of the world's leading providers of floating liquid natural gas (LNG) infrastructure services. Using a new, purpose built Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) provided by Hoegh LNG, Quantum Power intends to construct, own and operate a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal facility offshore Tema.
Information Sharing to Fight Piracy and Illegal Fishing in Ghana
International Maritime Organization (IMO)'s Chris Trelawny has visited the Maritime Trade Information Sharing Centre (MTISC-GoG), located in the Regional Maritime University of Accra, Ghana. The multinational centre provides advice and information to merchant shipping operating in the Gulf of Guinea. At the time of the visit over 630 ships were exchanging information with the centre. In recent months the centre has provided support to ships and authorities to assist in countering piracy and illegal fishing, as well as supporting search and rescue operations. The watchkeeping staff who operate this centre come from the navies of Congo, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Togo, the Liberian Maritime Authority and from private companies and are supported by Merchant Navy liaison officers.
Kongsberg Delivers Unique Rig Training Model
Kongsberg Maritime recently delivered a new rig simulator model at Simsea, based on the Floatel Superior accommodation unit, which is currently in operation in the North Sea. Developed as a part of the Kongsberg K-Sim Offshore simulators already installed at Simsea, the new customized model will be used to train semi-submersible rig personnel in advanced operation of Dynamic Positioning (DP), position mooring system (POSMOOR), stability/ballasting and rig move/anchoring. Kongsberg to Supply Engine Room Simulator to Ghana
The Regional Maritime University (RMU) has awarded Kongsberg Maritime a contract to deliver its K-Sim Engine simulator for its premises in Accra, Ghana. The highly advanced Full Mission Engine Room Simulator (ERS), which is due for delivery in May 2014 will enable RMU to provide education according to STCW requirements. RMU is a tertiary institution that gained university status in October 2007.
