John Rowley Appointed Next CEO of Wallem

The Board of Directors of Wallem Group have announced that John-Kaare Aune will be stepping aside as Wallem Group’s CEO and after a period of transition will leave in January 2024.The Wallem Board has appointed John Rowley to succeed him, with effect from January 1, 2024. Brown to Succeed Marsh as CEO at Lloyd's Register

LR's Board said that Nick Brown, 45, currently Marine & Offshore Director, will succeed Marsh as Group CEO and join the LR Group Board on January 1, 2021.

After 14-years at Lloyd's Register (LR), including five years as group CEO, Alastair Marsh announced that he is stepping down from his role and will retire from the Lloyd’s Register group board on December 31, 2020. LR's board said that Nick Brown, currently Marine & Offshore Director, will succeed Marsh as group CEO and join the LR group board on January 1, 2021. “Alastair is an exceptional business leader who has transformed the company during his tenure, delivering on a five-year modernization and cultural change strategy," said LR Chairman, Thomas Thune Andersen.

APL Halves Fleet Carbon Emissions

APL announced a 47.4% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per container transported per km in 2018, compared to 2009.The result follows the Environmental Performance Assessment (EPA) of APL’s 2018 carbon dioxide emission data by the global non-profit organization Business for Social Responsibility’s (BSR’s) Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG). APL Further Cuts CO2 Emissions

APL has announced a 50.7% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per transported container per kilometer in 2017, compared to its base level in 2009. This achievement marks APL’s eighth consecutive year of improved environmental performance, as reported in the Business for Social Responsibility’s Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG) Environmental Performance Assessment (EPA) of APL’s 2017 carbon dioxide emission data. The CCWG EPA data was verified by Lloyd’s Register Group according to the CCWG verification protocol and principles of ISO14064-3:2006 standard. Lloyd’s Register (LR) has announced the appointment of Paul Butcher as Managing Director, LR Management Systems & Inspection Services. Based in Birmingham, U.K., Butcher brings with him over 30 years of leadership experience in global professional services businesses. After graduating from Southampton University, Butcher held a number of leadership roles in the assurance, IT services and telecommunications sectors, including positions with SAI Global, Marconi, Ericsson and Damovo. APL Reports 48% CO2 Emission Reduction in 2016

APL has announced its highest recorded fleet carbon dioxide emissions reduction of 48 percent in 2016, compared to its base level in 2009. Verified by Lloyd’s Register Group according to the Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG) verification protocol and ISO14064-3:2006 standard, this achievement marks APL’s seventh consecutive year of improvements. “APL is pleased to register our best carbon reduction performance as yet, improving our fleet emission level by about 3 percent, versus our reduction in 2015. APL prides ourselves as a responsible carrier and will persevere in our pursuits of environmental excellence as we facilitate global trade,” said APL Chief Executive Officer, Nicolas Sartini who champions APL’s sustainability course.

OOCL Takes Further Step Forward in GHG Reporting

In OOCL’s commitment to environmental protection and data integrity standards, we are pleased to announce that OOCL has taken a further step forward in our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting by extending the scope to container terminals, namely Long Beach Container Terminal, LLC. (LBCT) in the United States and Kaohsiung Container Terminal (KAOCT) in Taiwan. APL announced that it has reduced its fleet carbon dioxide emissions by 45.5 percent in 2015, compared to its emissions level in 2009. “APL has steadily reduced its year-on-year carbon emissions and this demonstrates the company’s unyielding focus on sustainable shipping,” said Kenneth Glenn, APL President. APL attributed its carbon emissions reduction to improvements in operational efficiency, fleet and voyage optimization, technical improvements, as well as a more fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly fleet of vessels.

Green Signal for Iranian Tankers in European Ports

The Mehr News Agency reports that the British Lloyd's Register Group has canceled one sanction against Iran’s oil industry by issuing certificates for commute of Iranian oil tankers to the ports and oil terminals of European Union. The managing director of National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) Ali Akbar Safaei stated about the official removal of the first sanction on Iran’s oil industry in the field of marine transport of crude oil and petroleum products. “Iranian tankers will now travel under the license of British Lloyds international classification institution,”he said. The company is considering different scenarios for returning to European markets, while it has identified other new markets, he added.

Waldner Appointed LR's Group CFO

Global engineering, technical and business services organisation, Lloyd’s Register (LR), has announced the appointment of Mary Waldner as Group CFO. Mary is currently Group Finance Director at FTSE 250 listed defence, security, transport and energy company Ultra Electronics and replaces Alastair Marsh’s as LR’s Group CFO following his appointment as CEO of the Lloyd’s Register group in October 2015. Mary has a broad range of experience in a variety of sectors and an excellent track record of delivery throughout a number of senior financial roles with major public limited companies. After graduating from Oxford University with an MA in Physics, Mary started her career at Coopers & Lybrand Management Consultancy Services, before working for Vauxhall Motors Ltd.

Marsh to Take Over as Lloyd’s Register CEO

Alastair Marsh, current CFO at the Lloyd’s Register Group Ltd. (LR), has been appointed as the successor to CEO Richard Sadler who has decided to step down at the end of 2015. Sadler will pass the CEO role to Marsh on October 1, 2015 and commence a formal handover period until the end of December 2015. The Maritime Foundation is a charity promoting Britain’s interests across the entire maritime sector. British Marine Society & Sea Cadets Await New Training Ship

The British Marine Society & Sea Cadets will say farewell to its training vessel, TS Royalist, while a replacement with the same name is already under construction at the Spanish Gondan Shipyard. The new training ship is expected to enter service during summer 2015. Richard Sadler, CEO of Lloyd's Register Group Services Limited, made the announcement during the farewell ceremony of the previous Royalist, held in London. The ship has served for 43 years training more than 30,000 cadets. During the event, Captain Nigel Palmer, Chairman of MSSC, referred to the new construction that is underway in Gondan shipyard, where work will increase this autumn.

Harnessing the Wind for Auxiliary Propulsion

Greenpeace Targets Russian Tanker at Rotterdam Port

Mikhail Ulyanov, an ice-breaking shuttle tanker (ice class – ARC6) belonging to OAO Sovcomflot (SCF Group), has been the subject of a Greenpeace protest, while at the Port of Rotterdam carrying a cargo of 67,000 tons of crude oil, loaded on the continental shelf of the Pechora Sea, Russia. “We are extremely disappointed that our vessel has been the subject of an irresponsible publicity stunt by Greenpeace, which occurred despite the measures taken by our ship and the port authorities, including the Coast Guard and the Marine Police.
