The British Marine Society & Sea Cadets will say farewell to its training vessel, TS Royalist, while a replacement with the same name is already under construction at the Spanish Gondan Shipyard. The new training ship is expected to enter service during summer 2015.

Richard Sadler, CEO of Lloyd's Register Group Services Limited, made the announcement during the farewell ceremony of the previous Royalist, held in London. The ship has served for 43 years training more than 30,000 cadets.

During the event, Captain Nigel Palmer, Chairman of MSSC, referred to the new construction that is underway in Gondan shipyard, where work will increase this autumn. The sail training ship with two masts and steel hull, has a length overall of 32 m and a beam of 7.36 m, can accommodate 24 cadets as trainees, in voyages from six to fourteen days in northern European sea waters.
