Latest advances in digital technologies and faster, cheaper connectivity walk hand-in-hand as vessel owners of all sizes aim to cut fuel consumption, cut emissions and increase efficiencies. AST is aiming to do both, offering connectivity plus a suite of productivity solutions courtesy of its new Integrated Remote Asset Management System (IRAMS) solution, as CEO Andrew Peters explains.The maritime industry is often lamented as slow on the uptake of new technologies, but many of these boats and ships were born and raised in an analog society, designed to last up to 50 years.

AST Launches Remote Asset Management System

Applied Satellite Technology (AST) has launched its Integrated Remote Asset Management System (IRAMS).IRAMS is designed to address the challenges faced by industries such as oil and gas, maritime, renewables and utilities, where maritime assets are in remote and often harsh environments. With IRAMS, users can remotely control and monitor assets. IRAMS brings together live asset performance data, predictive maintenance scheduling and environmental impact reporting onto one single platform.

‘Smart Containers’ Roll Out for Silk Road

CIMC Internet of Mobile Things International Operation and Service Co., Ltd. (CIMC IOMT) and Globe Tracker International, ApS announce commercial roll out of Smart Containers, Smart Logistics and Smart Terminal products for China’s Silk Road. After announcing their partnership late last year, CIMC IOMT and Globe Tracker are now producing smart containers for CIMC customers. CIMC’s Yangzhou Tonglee Special Container, Qingdao CIMC Special Reefer Co. Ltd and Nantong CIMC Transportation and Storage co, Ltd. are the first divisions within CIMC to be selling the smart products. “The goal is to have all CIMC divisions supplying the container shipping, trucking, railway and logistics industries with global tracking, monitoring and remote asset management services and equipment.

Oceaneering Acquires Port Vision Parent, AIRSIS

Oceaneering International, Inc. says it has acquired AIRSIS Inc., a provider of remote asset management software services. AIRSIS’ signature service, PortVision®, provides web-based location reporting on commercial vessels. AIRSIS’ revenue for 2013 was approximately $7 million, and its future financial results will be included in Oceaneering’s Subsea Projects segment. Oceaneering explains that this acquisition is expected to enhance its current asset tracking service offered on offshore drilling rigs and vessels engaged in subsea activities. Asset tracking information is utilized by customers to establish a common operating picture, which improves operational efficiency and enables incident and emergency response collaboration and reporting.
