Tymor Marine Gets Grant Funding to Refine Draft Survey Tech

A maritime technology company based in Aberdeen has been awarded funding from Scottish Enterprise to support the development of an app-based version of its breakthrough draft survey technology. Kishorn Port Eyes Offshore Wind Opportunities as Expansion Plans Approved

Kishorn Port's proposal to extend the port’s dry dock has received approval from The Highland Council."This is a further and significant step in the regeneration of the port and dry dock," Kishorn Port, located on the North West coast of Scotland, said Tuesday.The development proposal involves an extension of the dry dock into adjoining land which, when completed, will allow the port to receive vessels and structures up to 250 meters in length in comparison to the current 160 meters.

Hunterston Port Reveals Masterplan

UK port operator Peel Ports has revealed its plans for the major port and industrial centre at Hunterston, one of Scotland’s most important development sites comprising a 300-acre brownfield footprint, deepwater, and rail connections.It is calling on North Ayrshire residents and businesses to share their opinions about potential uses of the site, which is expected to support over 1,700 jobs and add over £140m in economic value to Scotland.The company has published its vision for Hunterston and how it intends to develop the site over the next twenty years. Statoil Debuts Batwind

A new battery storage solution for offshore wind energy will be piloted in the world’s first floating wind farm, the Hywind pilot park off the coast of Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Batwind will be developed in co-operation with Scottish universities and suppliers, under a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Edinburgh on 18 March between Statoil, the Scottish Government, the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult and Scottish Enterprise. Cyberhawk Attracts £2m investment

Cyberhawk, the world leader in Remotely Operated Aerial Vehicle (ROAV) inspection and survey, and a pioneer in the conversion of drone-captured data into powerful asset information, is targeting expansion following agreement on a new £2 million funding package from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks’ Growth Finance team. GBP1mln Grant to Create 100 Jobs at Ferguson Shipyard

The last commercial shipyard on the Clyde, Scotland, has secured grant to help safeguard 125 jobs and create a further 100. Ferguson shipyard has been awarded a £1m grant to refurbish its Port Glasgow premises and help fund new jobs. Ferguson Marine Engineering Ltd (FMEL) received the grant from Scottish Enterprise which will boost the number of full time staff from 150 to 250 at Port Glasgow. The  Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) funding will contribute to Ferguson Marine's redevelopment of its premises and investment in new state of the art equipment. Last month, Ferguson was awarded a £97m Scottish government contract to build two new ferries. The firm was saved from administration last year by Jim McColl's Clyde Blowers Capital.

Record-breaking Ship Arrives in Aberdeen Harbor

Aberdeen Harbor has welcomed the largest vessel to have docked in the city, as its latest plans for the proposed expansion at Nigg Bay continue on public display. The MV Pacific Adventure, a general cargo and container vessel, which is 160 meters in length and 27 meters wide, now holds the record at the port with a gross tonnage of 19,128 metric tons, beating previous record holder, the diving support vessel, Skandi Arctic, by 488 metric tons. The Hartmann Project Lines vessel, under the agency of Euroline Shipping, recently arrived with a cargo of oilfield materials from Mauritania.

New Partnership to Evaluate Dual Fuel Applications

American Power Group Corporation (APG) announced they will be working with Marine Fuel Conversions, LLC (MFC) to evaluate potential applications and opportunities for APG’s dual fuel solution specifically in marine applications including on-board prime and ancillary power as well as port based stationary power applications. MFC which is based in Glasgow, Scotland will be responsible for funding and coordinating all feasibility and beta testing activities necessary to determine how APG’s innovative Turbocharged Natural Gas dual fuel system  can be commercialized in Europe for marine applications. The feasibility/beta testing period is anticipated to run between nine to fifteen months.

Results Reveal Stong Year for Aberdeen Harbor

Aberdeen Harbor has reported its results for 2013, with vessel tonnage exceeding 28 million metric tons for the second year in succession, and nearly 4.9 million metric tons of cargo crossing the quayside. Strong activity across the Harbor’s customer base was reflected in its financial results for the year, with turnover up 1.1% to £27.6 million (2012: £27.3 million), delivering pretax profits of £9.6 million. Aberdeen Harbor Expansion Gains Support

Plans by Aberdeen Harbor Board to create additional berthing facilities at Nigg Bay have received a double boost. An independent report has estimated the economic benefit of the development to the local and national economies to be nearly £1 billion per annum. This report has been published in the same month that the Scottish Government, in their National Planning Process, has named the Nigg Bay Development as one of only 14 projects that they consider to be of national importance to Scotland.

The Scottish Loan Fund Invests £3.5 Million in Coretrax

Maven Capital Partners (Maven) announced a £3.5 million Scottish Loan Fund (SLF) investment in energy services business Coretrax Technology Limited (Coretrax). Scotland's Fletcher Shipping Snaps Up PSV

North Sea supply specialist Fletcher Shipping buys 'FS Taurus' its third vessel in five years. Currently operating in the Forties section of the North Sea, Taurus will take the total number of employees at Fletcher to 90. Set up in 2007 with backing from the Royal Bank of Scotland, the company transports food, equipment and other supplies to offshore oil and gas operators, reports 'The Scotsman'. The purchase of the Taurus – a 2,600 tonne vessel built in 1991 – has been backed by RBS and the Scottish Loan Fund (SLF) run by Maven Capital. The SLF provided £4 million upfront, with the option to draw down a further £1m, to help part-fund the deal.

Sigma Offshore Opens Singapore Office

Sigma Offshore, which has developed a pioneering mooring and fluid transfer system for oil and gas production vessels, has opened a new office in Singapore. Sigma’s Eirik Refstie moved from the company’s Oslo base to head up the new Singapore office ahead of the FPSO Asia Congress in Singapore on September 28-29. He will take on the role of Vice President Asia Pacific. Sigma Offshore developed its Smart Mooring System (SMS) as a cost-efficient and timesaving solution for FPSOs (Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessels) and other vessels which require both mooring and fluid loading and unloading in medium to deepwater depths. AWS Ocean Energy Gets Major Investment from Alstom

AWS Ocean Energy Ltd, one of Scotland’s pioneering wave energy companies, announced that it had secured a major investment from Alstom, a global leader in power generation, power transmission and rail infrastructure. World's Largest Offshore "Wave Farm" Planned for Scotland

Alstom and SSE Renewables signed a new joint venture agreement to develop the Costa Head Wave Project, an up to 200 MW wave energy site located north of mainland Orkney, in The Crown Estate’s Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters Strategic Area. Alstom and SSE Renewables will work together to obtain the necessary permits and intend to populate the site with AWS-III wave energy converters, a technology currently under development by AWS Ocean Energy Ltd, in which Alstom acquired a 40% equity share in June 2011. Following a successful re-launch last year, the Society of Petroleum Engineers Aberdeen Section is again hosting the Offshore Achievement Awards with the support of main sponsor TAQA Bratani. This year will see the ceremony move to the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre to meet the huge demand for spaces at the event in March 2012. Over 70 entries were received for the 2012 awards, which took place at Ardoe House Hotel in Aberdeen in front of around 400 people.
