Seaboard Marine Adds First LNG Vessel to its Fleet

U.S.-based Seaboard Marine announced it has acquired its first vessel fueled by cleaner burning liquefied natural gas (LNG).The 1,000 TEU Seaboard Blue, previously known as the Elbblue, was retrofitted in 2017 with the capability of running on both LNG and diesel fuel. Seaboard CEO Bresky Passes Away

Seaboard Corporation announced Monday that its president, CEO and chairman of the board Steven J. Bresky passed away suddenly. The group said its board of directors expects to name Bresky's successor in the near future.Steve was the third generation Bresky to lead Seaboard in its 102-year history, following in the footsteps of his father H. Harry Bresky and grandfather and company founder Otto Bresky. He had been president, CEO and chairman of the board since 2006. BBC Chartering Joins Seaboard to Create “Andino Service”

Port Everglades Volumes zoom

Broward County's Port Everglades had a record-setting month in December 2016, logging 104,590 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units, the industry's standard measurement for containers), moving through the Port. This is the highest producing month in the Port's nearly 90 -year history, and a 15 percent increase over December 2015. TEU counts at Port Everglades have been climbing since September. "Our customers are bringing in higher volumes of consumer goods such as produce, clothing and household goods as the region's population increases. It's an indication of a strengthening economy," said Port Everglades Chief Executive and Port Director Steven Cernak. He announced the record TEU count at Florida Governor Rick Scott's 2017 Jobs Summit in Orlando on February 2, 2017.

Seaboard Marine Expands Services from U.S. Gulf

Seaboard Marine will launch a new weekly service commencing on Sunday, July 24, 2016, from New Orleans connecting U.S. exporters to Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica in addition to Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. The expanded service, which previously served only North Central America, will now provide U.S. importers and exporters in Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica with fast, direct transit to the United States Gulf. Charleston Port Joins USDA Cold Treatment Program

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Miami-based subsidiary specializing in Customs clearance of imported perishable apparel and refrigerated products, said it could begin clearing certain produce requiring cold-treatment from Peru, Uruguay and Argentina into the Port of Charleston, S.C. as early as this Spring. This development would indicate an expansion of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) cold treatment pilot program that has previously been rolled out in South Florida and in Savannah, Ga. New Orleans Sets Container Records in 2014

The Port of New Orleans achieved record container volumes in 2014 thanks in part to the addition of new shipping services and an uptick in the national economy contributed. According to year-end totals, 490,526 twenty-foot-equivalent units moved through the Port’s Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal during the 12 months, an 8.8 percent increase over the 2013 total of 451,057. “Strong export markets, primarily for chemical and agriculture products, together with new inbound customers such as Chiquita contributed to record container volumes,” said Port President and CEO Gary LaGrange.

Crowley, Seaboard to share vessels

Crowley Maritime Corporation’s liner services group and Seaboard Marine Ltd. announced today that they have entered a new vessel sharing agreement (VSA) to service customers in the Dominican Republic trade lane, while also changing their current VSA to Panama and Costa Rica. The new VSA, which commences mid-November, will provide customers of both companies with reliable, weekly service on a larger ship moving directly between Port Everglades, Fla., and Rio Haina, Dominican Republic. Concurrently, the existing VSA between Seaboard and Crowley to Panama and Costa Rica will now call only PortMiami starting in mid-November. Both Seaboard and Crowley vessels will arrive weekly at PortMiami on Tuesday evening and sail southbound on Fridays.

Seaboard Marine informs that the new gate facility allows trucks to flow directly from Port Boulevard into the ninety (90) acre Seaboard Marine terminal. The new gates, at the northeast corner of the Seaboard Marine terminal, will benefit Seaboard’s operations and trucker turnaround through streamlining gate processing while improving overall safety and security. Maersk Develops Air Cleaner for Refrigerated Containers

Eyeing vast new efficiencies in global fresh produce and fresh-cut flower transport, Maersk Container Industry (MCI) is now partnering with Boston-based technology company Primaira LLC to develop an air cleaning system in Star Cool Integrated refrigerated containers. Thorough tests and trials have shown the patented technology, Bluezone, to be an efficient eliminator of molds, fungi and bacteria. Using an ozone concentration 300 times higher than otherwise seen on the market, Bluezone also removes ethylene effectively. “We are still working on the final design, but we are convinced that the Bluezone and Star Cool combination represents economic and environmental upsides so far unseen in container transportation,” said Soren Leth Johannsen, chief commercial officer of MCI.

Crowley & Seaboard Marine in Vessel Sharing Agreement

Crowley Maritime Corporation’s liner services group and Seaboard Marine Ltd. announced a new vessel sharing agreement (VSA) that will provide customers of both companies with reliable, weekly service on larger ships between South Fla., Costa Rica and Panama. By sharing vessel space, Crowley and Seaboard will increase total capacity in the trade by using two 2,500-TEU-capacity vessels, resulting in a continued high level of service, a more efficient operation and reduced carbon emissions in the trade lane.

Dura Poly Delivers Plastic Barge

Dura Poly Boats delivered a 100% plastic Power House 820 workboat to Seaboard Marine Dockbuilders in Oceanside, New York. The vessel is an 8- by 20-foot, 100% plastic hull and wheel house, push knees, crane, nonskid deck, motor guard and custom bumpers with sign routed in them. Dura Poly said the barge is a very low maintenance easily truckable fast vessel. At just over 3,000 pounds, it's top speed is 30 knots. durapolyboats.com

Much-loved Seaboard Director Passes Away

Joseph E. Rodrigues, a long time Seaboard director & former executive officer, has passed away at his home in Las Vegas. Seaboard's President and Chairman noted in a statement to all Seaboard employees: "Many of you had the good fortune of knowing Joe and you know what a remarkable man he was-in temperament, intellect and spirit. I don't have the words to describe how well he lived his life and how kindly he treated people. Mr. Rodrigues' career with Seaboard began in 1980 when he served as Managing Director of Seaboard's flour milling operations in Nigeria. In 1987 he was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Seaboard, serving in this capacity until he retired in 2001. He had been a member of the Seaboard Board of Directors since 1990. Mr.

A Farewell to John Lynch

The following Miami Herald Notice was sent out by Seafarershouse.org: Dear friends, We note with sorrow the passing of a friend to seafarers, former President and CEO of Seaboard Marine, Mr. John Lynch.    John was our 2006 International Golden Compass Award recipient and a long-term supporter of the work of Seafarers' House at Port Everglades.  His own years at sea left him with a special appreciation for the safe haven of centers like ours and we are grateful for his years of commitment to our mission.   Our prayers and sympathy extend to his family and circle of loved ones.   A memorial Mass will be held on October 7 at 3:00 pm at St. Raymond's Catholic Church, 3475 SW 17th Street, Coral Gables. Seaboard Handles Cerveceria Regional Project

Seaboard Marine, the leading independent carrier to Latin America and the Caribbean announced today that it was carrying two giant boilers manufactured by Wabash Manufacturing for Cerveceria Regional of Venezuela. Working out of San Diego's Fisherman's Landing Marina, J.J. Gerritsen recently repowered his 65 x 22-ft. aluminum charter fishing boat dubbed Apollo. For Gerritsen sport fishing is a serious business dependent on the unpredictability of fish and weather. Given those two great unknowns, he has learned you can't leave anything else to chance. In the heavily populated southern California market, Gerritsen is also aware of the crucial relation between a healthy environment and success in the hospitality industry. "We were running a pair of the smoke belching old two-cycle engines," he says, "They were the standard in our industry. We understood them and had reliable mechanics and spares available. We can't afford any downtime in our business.

Seaboard Marine Discontinues Joint Service With Kent Lines

Seaboard Marine Limited of Miami and Kent Line International Limited of Saint John, New Brunswick has announced they shall not be re-newing their partnership between Canada, Miami and the Caribbean. The last Sailing under joint arrangement is expected to be the Seaboard Toronto V1616 sailing from Saint John on March 27, 2001 and Miami, Florida on March 31, 2001. Seaboard will be deploying two vessels to replace the Kent Express and Kent Sprint in the rotation from Miami to Antigua, Barbados and Trinidad. Names of these vessels will be announced at a later date. The rotation and service will remain the same with weekly departures on Friday from the Port of Miami with service to Antigua (Wednesday), Barbados (Thursday) and Trinidad (Friday).

Seaboard Trinidad Opens

Seaboard Marine of Miami, Fla. announced the opening of Seaboard Trinidad to handle the interests of Seaboard Marine in Trinidad and Tobago. Trevor Chan Pak was appointed as general manager for the new company. The new office, located in the port of Point Lisas, is online with the network in Miami and will be dedicated exclusively to service Seaboard. Seaboard Marine currently offers the fastest transit time to Trinidad from Miami and is also the top carrier from Trinidad to Jamaica. Complementing this is service from Trinidad to/from Panama, Venezuela, Colombia and Curacao. Through either of these, customers have access to any service throughout the Seaboard Marine transportation network.
