Seagull Training App v2.0 Enriched for Ease of Use

Seagull Maritime said it has upgraded its Seagull Training App, the mobile software solution that has changed the way seafarers track their training records and receive critical safety alerts. Available in both Android and iOS formats, the newly enhanced app can be used across a range of mobile devices, with dynamic screen layouts for all sizes, including tablets. VPS, Seagull Maritime Join Forces for Fuel Management Training

Seagull's Software Tool for Benchmarking Seafarers Knowledge

Seagull Maritime has launched an advanced software tool able to benchmark seafarer knowledge levels, allowing shipowners and operators to compare their crew and potential recruits with industry peers. The new tool will provide shipping companies with online access to data that can help them take objective decisions on recruitment sources and identify areas where further training is required. Benchmarking establishes the standards specific industries find acceptable, in terms of products, service levels or competitive practices, then finds ways to meet or improve upon these standards. A committee meeting of the Ports Memorandum on Port State Control (Paris MOU) in May unveiled plans for a Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Crew Familiarisation for Enclosed Space Entry. The campaign, scheduled between September and November this year in concert with the Tokyo MOU, is part of CIC efforts to verify compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006).

Container Industry Competence Standard Launched

Seagull Maritime AS has launched the Container Industry Competence Standard (CICS), an assessment and training system covering container vessel operations. The program aims to bring new consistency to competency on-board containerships, following a similar breakthrough from Seagull in the dry bulk sector last year, and earlier competence management system developments for the tanker industry. CICS has drawn on cooperation with Rickmers Shipmanagement GmbH, which offered key insights into cargo handling competencies specific to container vessel operations. The program has already been piloted and is now available for all container operators.

Offshore Safety Training from Seagull

Saegull Maritime has announced the launch of two new computer-based training (CBT) modules, focusing on deck safety for specific types of offshore vessels that will be as useful for seasoned crew as well as newcomers. The video training program covers deck safety for supply vessels and anchor handlers, and has been developed in response to demand from customers, according to Seagull. Deck Safety for Supply Vessels and Deck Safety for Anchor Handlers as part of an expanding library of offshore titles from Seagull Maritime that reflect its growing presence in the sector. The topics have been prioritized at the request of customers. Training & Education: NOAA Computerized Training to Unify, Save Money

When it comes to rolling out training to vessel crew and scientists, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) faces challenges similar to most other large fleets deployed within the waterways, coastal and offshore regions of the United States. These challenges include a geographically dispersed trainees and little time available in a busy work schedule to take time out for full day training sessions. In addition, while on leave crew and scientists want to be able to enjoy their time away from work with family and friends rather than attend classroom training to update qualifications or skills. NOAA operates and maintains the largest fleet of non-military research and survey ships operated by a federal agency.

Seagull Maritime Response on Safety, Security

Key areas of concern for seafarer safety and security in both marine and offshore operations have triggered the release of six new and one supplementary titles from computer-based training specialist Seagull Maritime. Third quarter 2014 releases include specific emphasis on the offshore and dry bulk sectors, as well as a milestone in Seagull Maritime’s close cooperation with Kelvin Hughes through the addition of ‘Equipment Specific ECDIS Training’ to the Seagull Maritime CBT library. The new training module (CBT#4012) is designed to train navigators in the practical use of the MantaDigital ECDIS in a safe and efficient manner and is approved by the maker.

Honing Skill Of Seafarers Using SATCOM

Maritime operational effectiveness is to be enhanced globally through the provision of training and certification for seafarers assigned to use advanced satellite communication systems on-board commercial vessels. Seagull Secures Panama Flag Approval

Seagull Maritime said it has secured training center approval from the Panama Maritime Authority, marking the first time that an overseas company has done so following the PMA’s 2014 change of leadership.
