Diana Shipping Invests in Diana Containerships

Dry bulk shipping company Diana Shipping and Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) have joined forces in a new 50/50 joint venture named Diana Wilhelmsen Management Limited (DWM). DWM, to be based in Limassol, Cyprus, and will commence operations by the end of June. It will begin operations by providing management services to "a limited number of vessels of Diana Shipping's fleet" and ultimately plans to provide management services to unaffiliated third-party vessel operators. “With our joint venture we see the best from two well established organisations.

Diana Shipping Inc. a global shipping company specializing in the ownership of dry bulk vessels, and Wilhelmsen Ship Management (“WSM”) today announced that they have established a new 50/50 joint venture named Diana Wilhelmsen Management Limited (“DWM”). Diana Wilhelmsen Management Limited will initially provide management services to a limited number of vessels of Diana Shipping’s fleet when the joint venture commences operations later in the second quarter of this year and may in the future provide management services to unaffiliated third party vessel operators.

Diana Shipping to Acquire Three Panamax Ships

Diana Shipping Inc. has signed, through three separate wholly-owned subsidiaries, three Memoranda of Agreement to acquire from a related party three Panamax vessels for an aggregate purchase price of $39.8 million. These vessels are the m/v Sunshine, a 2010 built Panamax dry bulk vessel of 75,700 dwt, the m/v Manzoni, a 2013 built Panamax dry bulk vessel of 75,403 dwt and the m/v Infinity 9, a 2013 built Panamax dry bulk vessel of 77,901 dwt, all built by Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. The delivery of the vessels to the buyers is expected by the end of March 2016. The company has agreed to acquire the vessels from entities affiliated with Semiramis Paliou and Aliki Paliou, each of whom is a family member of the company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Diana Shipping Commissions Capesize Dry Bulk Carrier

Diana Shipping Inc., a global shipping company specializing in the ownership of dry bulk vessels, has announced that, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, it took delivery of the m/v P. S. Palios (formerly JK Pioneer), a 2013 built Capesize dry bulk vessel of 179,134 dwt that the company entered into an agreement to purchase in October 2013. As previously announced, the m/v P. S. Palios is time chartered to RWE Supply & Trading GmbH, Essen, Germany, at a gross charter rate of $18,350 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a period of about 22 months to maximum December 31, 2015. The charter is expected to commence tomorrow. This employment is anticipated to generate approximately $11.8 million of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the charter.

Diana Shipping Inc. announced today that through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, it entered into a time charter contract with Sandgate Maritime Ltd for one of its Panamax dry bulk vessels, the m/v Coronis. Diana Shipping Announces $53.5m Drawdown

Diana Shipping Inc. Diana Shipping Inc., a global shipping company specializing in the ownership of dry bulk vessels, completed a drawdown of $53.5 million on December 19, 2014, through two separate wholly-owned subsidiaries, under a term loan facility it signed with BNP Paribas. The proceeds will be used to partially finance the acquisition costs of two Capesize dry bulk vessels, the m/v P. S. Palios and the m/v G. P. Zafirakis, which were delivered to the company on December 2, 2013 and August 20, 2014, respectively. Additionally, the company announced that through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, it entered into a time charter contract with Glencore Grain B.V., Rotterdam, for one of its Panamax dry bulk vessels, the m/v Nirefs, a 75,311 dwt Panamax dry bulk vessel built in 2001.

Diana Shipping Inc., a global shipping company specializing in the ownership and operation of dry bulk vessels, announced that yesterday it signed, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, a Memorandum of Agreement to purchase from an unaffiliated third party the m/v JK Pioneer, a 2013 built Capesize dry bulk vessel of 179,134 dwt, for a price of $52,000,000. The vessel, to be renamed P. S. Palios, is expected to be delivered to the buyer in mid-November 2013. The vessel is currently chartered to Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. KG, Luebeck, Germany, at a gross charter rate of $11,500 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties. Based on the existing charterparty, the charterer has the option to redeliver the vessel at any time before, but not later than March 30, 2014.

Diana Containerships Reports Q1 Results

Diana Containerships Inc., a global shipping company specializing in the ownership of containerships, today reported net income of $0.3 million for the first quarter of 2014, compared to a net loss of $31.8 million for the respective period of 2013. During the first quarter of 2014, the company incurred losses arising from the disposal of the vessel Sardonyx, amounting to $0.7 million, without which the net income for the first quarter of 2014 would have been $1 million and the earnings per share, basic and diluted, would have been $0.03 for that quarter.

200 Years of Erie Canal History

April 2011 marks the 200th anniversary of the key decisions for the construction of the Erie Canal, a monumental public works project that transformed the economy of New York State. Two centuries ago, on April 8, 1811, the state Legislature approved a measure that set into motion the construction of the Erie Canal.
