Simulation Training at MSRC

In the world of maritime training, MSRC has carved a unique niche in the training of pilots. Founded in 2005, MSRC is a division of the Corporation of Lower St. Lawrence Pilots (CLSLP). The MSRC is a purpose-built simulator with a fully instrumented DNV Class “A” configured bridge with 330° visuals that exceed the requirements of the 1995 STCW Convention. MSRC’s Full Mission Simulator (FMS) is one of the most advanced simulators of its type and is continually being upgraded. The Center is also equipped with three fully instrumented ship bridges, with a horizontal view of 240°.

New Simulator Operators Training Course

eMaritime group have written a new five-day Simulator Operators Training Course (SOTC) and will launch it with a free one-off session from June 19-23, 2017 at eMaritime Group HQ, Whiteley, Hampshire. The SOTC course has been written to give those who wish to teach on a maritime simulator the necessary skills, teaching techniques and aids within a standard bridge simulator environment. The course is generic to simulator training in general and so can be applied to any make or model of simulator.

GTT Wins LNG Simulator Order

GTT Training, subsidiary of Gaztransport and Technigaz (GTT), has announced that it has received a contract to supply its G-Sim LNG simulator software to L-3 DPA Inc. and Chevron. The contract involves the development of a new LNG Carrier model based specifically of the new LNG vessels owned and operated by Chevron. The G-Sim software will also interface with the Engine Room simulation equipment being provided to Chevron by L-3 DPA. Used to provide hands-on, real-time training in the processes and procedures that must be followed to undertake and complete any type of LNG cargo related operation, G-Sim provides full simulation of all the systems on a vessel that are involved in the management and handling of the LNG cargo and maintaining the vessel in a safe condition.

SCI’s New Chapter in Maritime Training

Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) launched an initiative on December 10, 2014 aiming to transform training for America’s inland mariners at its Center for Maritime Education in Paducah, KY. The day before its 15th Annual River Bell Awards ceremony, the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) pushed the proverbial boat out on a new era of maritime education. In prior months, SCI had installed new simulators and renovated the hospitality areas at its Center for Maritime Education in Paducah, KY. The official dedication of the refurbished Center on December 10 revealed SCI’s blueprint for preparing a new generation of mariners for safe operations on American waterways.

Transas Simulator for City of Glasgow College

On March 14, Transas Marine and City of Glasgow College signed a contract to supply a simulation complex. SCI Simulator Offers One-on-one Training

With a new simulator in full operation, SCI helps individual mariners complete assessments previously only available in large class settings or in the real world when exact conditions could be met on the water. Furuno ECDIS Type Specific Training Available in Ukraine

Odessa Maritime Training Center in Ukraine has joined the Furuno NavSkills network. Starting from March 2013, Odessa Maritime Training Center will provide Furuno type specific ECDIS training to navigators, as a part of the Furuno NavSkills training network. Established in 1998, Odessa Maritime Training center (OMTC) is one of the leading centers in the Ukraine. During the following two years the OMTC Quality Management System was developed and implemented and in 1999 OMTC was certified and approved by the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in accordance with the Rules for Maritime Training Centers.

Transocean Opens Kuala Lumpur Training Center

Transocean officially opened its state-of-the-art training center and offices in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The training center and offices were opened by Dato’ Wee Yiaw Hin, Executive Vice President, Exploration and Production, of PETRONAS, and Steven L. Newman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Transocean. “It is exciting to celebrate the opening of our Kuala Lumpur facilities, and we are honored to have Dato’ Wee join us for this event,” said Steven Newman. The 32,000-square-foot Transocean offices and training center are located in the G Tower in downtown Kuala Lumpur, close to the PETRONAS Towers. Approximately 120 Transocean personnel work in the Kuala Lumpur facilities.

Irish Offshore Training Capability Launched

SEFtec NMCI Offshore Ltd (SNO), a public / private joint venture between SEFtec Global Training Ltd and The National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI), will be launched on the 17th December 2010 at the National Maritime College, Co. Cork, by the Minister of Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Batt O’Keeffe. This venture brings together public infrastructure with private enterprise for not only offshore training, but design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and service of training simulators for the global maritime industry. Focused on supporting the successful and sustainable growth of the Irish offshore exploration sector, SNO has successfully secured the approval of the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organization (OPITO) for its programme of courses.

Australian Maritime College Adds More DP Training

The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is establishing a second AMC DP Unit following the successful first year of operation of Australia’s first accredited DP training facility at AMC’s Launceston, Tasmania, campus. The new AMC DP Unit will be located in Northbridge, Perth, and the inaugural course is scheduled for 15-19 November, 2010. AMC hopes that a Perth based DP facility will be a more convenient location than Tasmania for many potential trainees who work in the burgeoning offshore oil and gas industry in Western Australia. Also, AMC has a strategy to build a stronger presence in Western Australia generally, and the new DP Unit is likely to be just the first of similar moves by AMC over the next couple of years.

Kongsberg Launches New Simulation Software

Kongsberg Maritime launched of Polaris 4.4.0, the latest version of its Polaris bridge simulation architecture. simulation systems or multi-channel full mission simulators based on real-life bridge consoles and layouts. "As one of the major players in maritime training, Kongsberg Maritime is constantly upgrading its simulation equipment and software in order to provide colleges and students with the most realistic experience that technology will allow," states Per Branstad, VP Simulation, Kongsberg Maritime.

Transas Secures First Simulator Order in Myanmar

In May 2002, Singapore-based Transas Marine Pacific received the first order to supply a multi-purpose simulation complex to Myanmar (Burma). The order came from Eastwind Shipmanagement Pte Ltd, which is setting up its own training center in Myanmar. Among the Transas simulator equipment to be installed within the next 8 weeks in the new training facilities of Eastwind, there will be the TGS 4100 Ver. 4.1 GMDSS simulator class; networked PC-based Engine Control Room simulator ERS 2000 Ver. 5.4.2 and the Transas ship handling simulator Navi-Trainer Professional 3000. The configuration of the ship handling simulator is a multi-task CBT solution comprising ARPA/radar, visualization/conning and ECDIS workstations.

Lockheed Completes Phase of Security Project

Lockheed Martin announced the completion of the first phase of its project to provide the Australian College of Kuwait a Maritime Simulation and Training Facility. The company submitted technical designs for a three-story building that is expected to house the maritime simulation equipment. Wuhan University Students to Train on Transas Simulator

Transas has been awarded a contract to supply and install the Navi-Trainer Professional 4000 at the Wuhan University of Technology, China. The contract was obtained by Transas China, the official Transas representative in the region. The scope of supply will include one main bridge with full ship control and seven channels of visualization, and three secondary bridges with reduced ship control and three visualization channels for each one. All the bridges will be provided with Conning, ECDIS, Radar, GMDSS, and NavAids workstations. Transas will also equip the Briefing/Debriefing room with six desktop Navi-Trainer Expert navigation simulators. The commissioning of the simulation equipment is scheduled for early September 2003.
