Tom Perrine, Austal VP of Engineering, Retires

Austal USA Vice President of Engineering, Tom Perrine, has retired after eight years of service with the company and over 40 years in the shipbuilding industry. During his tenure, Perrine led Austal USA’s engineering department overseeing the work of over 250 engineers, naval architects, designers, and other engineering support staff and overseeing the department’s shift to include steel design and construction.During Perrine’s tenure with the company, Austal USA delivered 23 surface combatants and auxiliaries to the U.S.

LR Awards HHI Design Approval for LCO2 carrier

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has awarded Design Approval to South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the development of the world’s first 40,000m3 liquefied carbon dioxide carrier.At 239 meters long and 30 meters wide, the LCO2 carrier design will be the largest in its class. The vessel will be equipped with seven IMO Type C cargo tank that use an innovative new steel design, allows tanks to be constructed with lighter scantling whilst remaining structural integrity.

Hyundai Heavy, LR Eye LNG-fueled Future

Hyundai Heavy Industry (HHI) Group, with the support of Lloyd's Register (LR), is responding to the increasing  interest in the development of the global supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), following the introduction of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) NOx and SOx emission limitations, by being at the forefront of developing innovative ship designs. This month Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD), part of the HHI Group, will deliver of the world’s largest LNG-fuelled ship, a 50,000 dwt bulk carrier with a high manganese LNG fuel tank.

AVEVA to Acquire FabTrol Systems

AVEVA Group plc announces that it has agreed to acquire FabTrol Systems, Inc. from the Dowco Group of Companies the acquisition is expected to complete by Friday 26 June 2015. FabTrol is a software business, headquartered in Eugene, Oregon with operations in North America and the United Kingdom, providing fabrication management software to the steel fabrication industry. The consideration of $6.5 million has been funded through AVEVA's existing cash resources. The acquisition is expected to be earnings enhancing in FY16. The combination of the FabTrol software together with AVEVA Everything3D which is already integrated with AVEVA Bocad structural steel detailing software, creates a powerful design, detailing and fabrication solution.

New Offshore Motion Prediction, Stability & Modelling Software

Bentley’s latest SACS release provides advanced visualization of motions prediction & expanded offshore wind turbine analysis. SACS version 5.5 is software that expands installation capabilities, integrates new wind turbine platform design functionality, and introduces floating analysis for offshore vessels. WESMAR Thrusters ABS DP Approval

WESMAR announced that two more of their all stainless steel bow thrusters have been given ABS Certificate of Design Assessment for dynamic positioning (DP) applications. WESMAR Models V2-24 and V2-26 Vortex dual prop all stainless steel bow thrusters have joined the V2-20NS system, which received the design approval rating earlier this year. NASSCO Taps H&W For Tanker Work

Harland and Wolff Technical Services Limited, the design engineering consultancy of Harland and Wolff Group PLC, has won additional major contracts from the NASSCO. The Company has been contracted to provide both Detail Modelling and Production Information within the Cargo Zone areas for a series of newbuild Alaska-class tankers to be built for BP. Crowley to Acquire New Containers

Crowley Liner Services is investing in and modernizing its equipment fleet by acquiring 1,000 new 53-ft. (102-inch wide) and 1,400 new 45-foot (102-inch wide) container/chassis combinations. The new 45-ft. Bahamas and Virgin Islands. Two hundred and fifty of the 45-foot containers will be equipped with garment racks to accommodate hanging garments in the important apparel markets.
