FORAN Takes a Run at North America

Ship Constructor, Military pose some challenges. Madrid’s Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. (Sener) is hoping to regain a foothold via its FORAN CAD/CAM software in the North American market, and to use that opening to crack the Big Six military shipyards, landing at least one lucrative long-term contract. But first, it’s going to have get past its chief competition on these shores, Vancouver-based SSI’s ShipConstructor software, CATIA from Dassault Systèmes of France, and Nupas-Cadmatic, jointly owned by Numeriek Centrum Groningen B.V. of the Netherlands and Cadmatic Oy of Finland.

CSS Olympia Delivered

CSS Olympia

STX Marine (STXM) announced that Gran Energia took delivery of the Compact Semi-Submersible (CSS) Olympia from MAC Offshore. STXM and partners in CSS Designs Ltd. developed the CSS design over the past five years, and said this delivery, will change the long term landscape of the Offshore Vessel market. Built by Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in Fujian Province, China, the CSS Olympia has a length of 84.25m. with an overall capacity of 500 people. The primary function of the Olympia is to act as a floating accommodation unit for rig personnel.

STX Marine (STXM), which split off from the STX Corporation in 2011, say they partnered with CSS Designs Ltd. for 5 years to develop the ground breaking Compact Semi-Submersible (CSS) design of the 'Olympia' which they believe will change the long term landscape of the offshore vessel market. The primary function of the Olympia is to act as a floating accommodation unit for rig personnel. The vessel has a DP-3 rating and will remain connected to an offshore facility via a telescopic gangway system.

STX Canada Marine Purchases FORAN System

The naval architecture and marine engineering consultant STX Canada Marine (STXM) signed a contract with Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas, S.A. (SENER) for the license to use the FORAN CAD/CAM System. After the implementation of FORAN in its headquarters in Vancouver, STXM is conducting a learning process during the summer focused in the early design process in 3D. STXM has acquired FORAN licenses covering hull forms, general arrangement and naval architecture, hull structure, machinery and outfitting and drafting and drawing.

STX Wins Seaspan Ferry Design Contract

STX Marine (STXM) has been awarded the contract for the engineering package for Seaspan Ferry Corporation’s fleet replacement program. The completed concept design will form part of a bid package, expected to be released to shipyards for tender in July 2013. The new design will feature a 60 trailer capacity, service speed of 14 knots and a planned 40 year service life. STXM will be examining the latest propulsion technology and energy efficiency technology for incorporation into the design. In addition, the design will include a modern comfortable facility for crew and drivers.

CSS Olympia Launched, Additional CSS Contracts Secured

STX Marine launched MAC Offshore’s Compact Semi-Submersible (CSS), CSS Olympia. The launch took place on the 28th March, 2013 at the LiyaPingtan Shipyard, in Fujian Province, China, managed by Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding. The delivery of the vessel is due in November 2013 to CSS Olympia’s new owner Graal Invest of Brazil. STX, Eastern and Hornbeck to Build 8 OSV's

STX Marine (STXM) is pleased to congratulate Eastern Shipbuilding Group on the award by Hornbeck Offshore Services Inc. for the design and construction of eight STXM designed offshore support vessels. The SV300 and SV310 series vessels are derived from well proven designs recently delivered to the US Gulf Coast and they will have a deadweight of approximately 5500 LT and 6070 LT respectively. The vessels shall be designed to meet the requirements of the DP2, FiFi 1 and ENVIRO notations from ABS as well as be in accordance with the latest applicable Marpol and IMO regulations.
