Survitec Group announced a transformational deal with the Marine Safety business of Wilhelmsen Maritime Services AS (WMS), in which WMS will transfer into Survitec all related safety products and services, including Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions, WSS Technical Services and WSS Safety Products. The combined business will operate under the Survitec Group name. “Upon completion of the merger, WMS will hold a 20 percent stake in Survitec, which will cement the long-term relationship between our two organizations and ensure Wilhelmsen’s continued and significant involvement in the future success of the combined group,” said Dag Schjerven, President and CEO of Wilhelmsen Maritime Services, who will take a position on the Survitec Group Board of Directors.

David Weston has been appointed training and competence operations manager at the business, which recently opened its 12th office in Rotterdam. Survival Craft Inspectorate (SCI), a global provider of emergency marine evacuation systems, is to launch a new division at the Cruise Shipping Miami 2013 exhibition (March 11-14, 2013). The new division of SCI will supply, install and maintain emergency liferafts for the commercial cruise shipping and energy markets. SCI will initially open three offices in the United Kingdom with the first being at the company’s Findon operation. Initially 10 jobs will be created across the three new operations.

Aberdeen-based marine safety specialist Survival Craft Inspectorate is expanding its UK operations to meet demand from oil and gas clients operating in the Southern North Sea sector. The company is investing $1.2m in staffing and equipping new premises on the Harfreys Industrial Estate in Great Yarmouth. The site comprises a large workshop, extensive storage facilities and offices. Survival Craft — which has its headquarters at Aberdeen’s Findon Shore — has more than 20 years’ international experience in the manufacture, inspection, testing, and servicing of life-saving equipment. As well as operating from the UK and Norway, it has a global footprint comprising bases in Singapore, Malaysia, Western Australia, China, and the US.

An Aberdeen-based company is behind the first freefall lifeboat-training centre to open for business in Australia. Shell UK Ltd placed an order for two new 72 seat lifeboats from Survival Craft Inspectorate Ltd in Aberdeen. The lifeboats will replace two 56 seat lifeboats aboard the Anasuria FPSO operating in the North Sea. The new lifeboats will use the vessel’s existing davits but due to their design, will enable an increase in crew carrying capacity. The new SC59FF free fall lifeboat from Survival Craft Inspectorate is touted as a cost-effective safety system for cargo vessels, tankers and offshore platforms. By optimizing the interior layout of the new 5.9 m lifeboat, designers have achieved 25-passenger carrying capacity. Constructed throughout from corrosion resistant materials, the hull and canopy of the new 5.9 m (19-ft.) lifeboat are molded from GRP. The SC59FF is launched and recovered using a hydraulic ramp and is capable of providing its occupants with a rapid escape from heights up to 13 m. The fire-protected version of the SC59FF is equipped with an external water spray and an internal compressed air supply that enable it to provide the highest levels of protection for tanker and oil platform crews.
