Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Names New Chief Executive

Singapore's Ministry of Transport announced that Teo Eng Dih will take over as chief executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), succeeding Quah Ley Hoon, who will step down on September 5, 2022.Teo Eng Dih, currently Deputy Secretary (Policy) of the Ministry of Defense (MINDEF), is responsible for MINDEF’s defense policy and diplomacy, strategic and public communications, and Total Defense. He oversaw the expansion of defense cooperation with international partners and strengthening of collaborations at the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting (ADMM) platform.

Missing Submarine Found Broken Up, 53 Dead

A missing Indonesian submarine has been found, broken into at least three parts, at the bottom of the Bali Sea, army and navy officials said on Sunday, as the president sent condolences to relatives of the 53 crew.Rescuers also found new objects, including a life vest, that they believe belong to those aboard the 44-year old KRI Nanggala-402, which lost contact on Wednesday as it prepared to conduct a torpedo drill."Based on the evidence, it can be stated that the KRI Nanggala has sunk and all of its crew have died…

US Navy Presence Highlighted in IMDEX17

The littoral combat ship USS Coronado (LCS 4) and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104) represented the U.S. in the International Maritime Defense Exposition 2017 (IMDEX-17) in Singapore May 16-18. According to a press release from the Navy, the ships and crew were joined by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson, who was hosted by Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) Chief Adm. Lai Chung Han for the RSN 50th anniversary celebration and International Maritime Review along with engagement associated with IMDEX. "Let's congratulate the Republic of Singapore Navy for their 50th anniversary; their golden jubilee," said Richardson. "What better way to celebrate that anniversary than an International Maritime Review in the company of so many partner navies.

ST Marine Celebrates LMV Sovereignty Launch

Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine), the marine arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering), held the Launching Ceremony today for the second Littoral Mission Vessel (LMV), Sovereignty, designed and built for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). The Launch Ceremony was officiated by Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security. Initiating the launch of the vessel at ST Marine’s Benoi Yard was DPM Teo’s wife, Mrs Teo Chee Hean. The event was witnessed by Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence; Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Senior Minister of State for Defence, and many senior officials from Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

Keppel and NUS Set Up Corporate Lab

Keppel Corporation (Keppel) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) announced the founding of the Keppel-NUS Corporate Laboratory, in collaboration with the National Research Foundation (NRF), Prime Minister's Office, Singapore. The laboratory, which will be based at the NUS Faculty of Engineering, will be established with an investment amount of S$75 million. The launch of the Keppel-NUS Corporate Laboratory was graced by Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Teo Chee Hean, who is also Chairman of NRF. The Keppel-NUS Corporate Laboratory is the second laboratory to be established under the NRF's Corp Lab at University scheme, which is established to support Singapore's autonomous universities in their conduct of industry-relevant research with companies as partners.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean visited USS Freedom, July 12, while the ship was moored at Changi Naval Base. Mr. Teo, a former Republic of Singapore Chief of Navy, visited the U.S. Navy's first-of-class littoral combat ship as she prepares to participate in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Singapore next week - an annual bilateral exercise with the Republic of Singapore Navy in its 19th year. Mr. Teo also serves as Singapore's Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs.

‘Torch of Passion’ Guides Clipper Race Fleet into Keppel Bay

A Singapore welcome greeted the international fleet of 10 in the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race as they sailed into Marina at Keppel Bay over the weekend to rousing cheers from Singaporeans, families and residents of Keppel Bay. Dr Lee Boon Yang, Chairman of Keppel Corporation, ignited the ‘Torch of Passion', starting the welcome celebrations for the fleet which had just completed Race 7, a 4,600-mile race from Gold Coast, Australia, to Singapore. At the ceremony, Guest-of-Honor Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, presented the Keppel-sponsored Singapore Cup to the winning team from Gold Coast Australia…

Singapore Addresses Fight Against Piracy

The Singapore Ministry of Defence released the speech delivered by Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at a recent conference.  He stated, among other things, that he expects piracy in the Straits of Malacca to increase due to the declining economic situation.  He also announced the Singapore will be deploying a Landing Tank Ship with two helicopters to assist in combating piracy in the Gulf of Aden. Singapore Comissions 3 Warships

Singapore commissioned three state-of-the art warships, according to a release from the Singapore Ministry of Defense. RSS INTREPID, RSS STEADFAST and RSS TENACIOUS, the second, third and fourth Formidable-Class frigates from the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) will be commissioned into the RSN's operational service, having completed their sea trials and operational training.

Royal Swedish Navy Chief Conferred Award

RADM Jörgen Ericsson, Navy Inspector of the Royal Swedish Navy, was conferred Singapore’s prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) or Meritorious Service Medal (Military), by Minister for Defence, RADM(NS) Teo Chee Hean. The Meritorious Service Medal (Military) was awarded to RADM Ericsson in recognition of the significant role he played in fostering the strong ties and good relations between the Republic of Singapore Navy and the Royal Swedish Navy. With his support, the Republic of Singapore Navy has successfully conducted its submarine crew training in Sweden. The comprehensive and rigorous training that the Republic of Singapore Navy submariners received has greatly enhanced their professional abilities in submarine operations.

Singapore Navy Launches Stealth Frigate

The Republic of Singapore Navy ( RSN) launched its sixth stealth frigate, RSS Supreme, at the Singapore Technologies Marine shipyard on May 9. According to a statement by the Ministry of Defense (MINDEF), RSS Supreme is the final frigate to be built locally, which will undergo harbor and sea trials in the next phase of construction. Minister for Defense Teo Chee Hean and Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Defense Ng Eng Hen were present at the launching ceremony. According to MINDEF's Formidable-class frigate program, the six new stealth frigates will replace the RSN's missile gunboats which have been in service for more than 25 years.
