At APM Terminals Mumbai it is now possible to submit Additional Service Requests (ASR) via its online Customer Service Portal. Replacing a manual process, this new automated process is quicker, simpler and more transparent for customers.Around 20 import and 20 export services can now be requested online, ranging from priority delivery, seal fixing, and inter-terminals transfers to early or late gate-ins, empty container storage and break-bulk handling.Requests for additional services are activated immediately, removing the need to allow for 24 hours processing. APM Terminals Inland Services Uruguay (also known as Montevideo Port Services SA) switched on 648 solar panels this month, capable of producing 228.6 MWh per year, enough to meet up to 90 percent of the facilities entire annual consumption.By switching to their own renewable energy source, Inland Services Uruguay, the largest equipment maintenance and repair provider in the country, will reduce its CO2 emissions by almost 50 tonnes per year. APM Terminals Mumbai, India handled a record 2.3 million TEUs during its 2017-2018 financial year. This is the terminal’s highest volume since the terminal was built in 2006. The terminal received over 633 vessels over the course of the year. The terminal is no stranger to records. In financial year 2014-2015 the terminal already created the Indian National Maritime Record handling 2.01 million TEUs, approximately 20% of India's containerized cargo. APM Terminals Inland Services inaugurated its new state-of-the-art Inland Container Depot and supply chain solutions facility designed to serve one of India’s fastest-growing hubs for industrial development and manufacturing in the Pune district in Maharashtra state. The new facility, which is over 12 acres in area, can handle more than 60,000 containers annually. Services include Customs clearance, bonded and non-bonded warehousing, empty container acceptance, transportation solutions and container repairs which are typically offered near ports.The facility is located 150 kilometers inland from Mumbai. French based CMA-CGM, a member of the Ocean Alliance, began the new INDIAMED service to Mumbai with the arrival of the 5,009 TEU capacity CMA CGM Virginia at APM Terminals Mumbai. The service, linking South Asia with ports in the Arabian Gulf and Mediterranean, was officially introduced on July 2nd, operating with vessels provided by CMA-CGM, its APL subsidiary, and Chinese-based Alliance partner COSCO. The weekly INDIAMED service provides the fastest transit times between India and CMA CGM hub ports in the Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf, and expands the transshipment network through the MEGEM (East Mediterranean to/from Middle East destinations) and MEDEX (West Mediterranean to/from Middle East and Indian Sub-Continent) services.

APM Terminals Mumbai, India’s busiest container terminal, has embraced ‘Direct Port Delivery’ (DPD)service initiated by the Indian government as part of its “Ease of Doing Business Program” to enhance India’s access to the global logistics chain. The streamlined Direct Port Delivery protocol can result in substantial savings of time and money for importers by reducing container dwell times after vessel discharge. In the past, import containers were sent to Container Freight Stations (CFS) 1-1.5 days after arriving by vessel. Next, depending on the completion of import procedures and clearances with shipping lines, custom house agents, Customs, consignees and CFS operators, the cargo was then delivered to the end user after an average dwell time of 9- 10 days.

APM Terminals Mumbai became the first Indian container terminal to go paperless by providing shipping lines electronically with the required Export Form 13 for export containers entering the terminal by truck. Building upon the success of the Export e-Form 13, APM Terminals Mumbai has also introduced an ‘Online Import Delivery Process’ to simplify and streamline the import cycle of terminal operations to reduce gate waiting time and congestion, and enable faster container movements into and out of the terminal. “By going live with the import delivery cycle, APM Terminals Mumbai has once again become a pioneer in providing transparency in the supply chain and ease of doing business” said APM Terminals Mumbai COO Ravi Gaitonde.

On February 1st APM Terminals Senior Vice President Peder Sondergaard officially inaugurated a new solar power initiative at APM Terminals Mumbai, the busiest container terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP), at the Port of Mumbai, serving India’s commercial and financial hub. As part of the clean solar energy project, solar panels have been installed on the roofs of two terminal structures, and the conversion of energy from collected sunlight into stored electricity has commenced. APM Terminals Mumbai established a new record for Indian ports by handling a total of 2.01 million TEUs during the Fiscal Year of 2014-15, representing the period between April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015. APM Terminals Mumbai is one of three terminals currently operating at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP), India’s largest container port, accounting for 45% of JNP’s throughput, and approximately 20% of India’s total container traffic. Larger vessels of the 9,000 TEU capacity class have begun calling APM Terminals Mumbai since 2013. The deepening of the Mumbai harbor channel in 2014 combined with an increase in the vessel size and container volumes are contributing factors to the growth.

APM Terminals Mumbai welcomed China Shipping Container Line’s HS Paris on March 20th, on her maiden call as part of the Middle East-Indian Subcontinent-North America (MINA) Service, jointly operated by the United Arab Shipping Company, Hanjin Shipping, CMA CGM and China Shipping. The 6,500 TEU capacity HS Paris completed 1,292 import and export moves in approximately 12 hours, for a berth productivity of 106 moves per hour. The MINA Service operates on fixed-day weekly sailing linking KhorFakkan, Jebel Ali, Port Qasim, Nhava Sheva (APM Terminals Mumbai), Mundra, Jeddah, Port Said East, Livorno, La Spezia, Genoa, Fos, Barcelona, Valencia, Tangier, New York, Norfolk, Savannah and Miami.

India’s largest container port, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), said it aims to grow as one of the top 10 global container ports in the next five years. After announcing his 'Make in India' vision plan, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first port of call was JNPT, the biggest port for handling container traffic in the country. The foundation stone for the first leg of the $800 million multi-product Special Economic Zone SEZ project was laid on August 16. The project will develop free trade warehousing zones for engineering goods sector, textile and other sectors. The JNPT SEZ will come up over 277 hectares of land near the port as a self-sustainable integrated development project with a potential to generate around 150,000 jobs.
