Thunderbird II Sports Innovative Hull Cleaning Systems

On July 16, 2021, Thunderbird 2 (TB2) was christened in Rotterdam by Mirelle Pennings, Director of Commercial Banking at Rabobank. The TB2 is the second working vessel of Fleet Cleaner, a green scale-up from Delft that uses self-developed robots to clean ships hulls. It is the world's first ship, too, according to Fleet Cleaner, that can clean tankers explosion-safe during loading and unloading.After seven months of construction, Friday was finally the day: the second Fleet Cleaner working vessel was christened.

Svanevik Elected to Seadrill Board

Seadrill Limited announced today that Carl Erik Steen has resigned from the board of directors with immediate effect. Filling the position is Ørjan Svanevik, who was appointed by the board of directors to fill the vacant position starting immediately. Svanevik is an employee of the Seatankers Group and was previously managing director for the investment advisory firm, Oavik Capital. Prior to Oavik, he was head of M&A and a partner at Aker ASA, and COO and EVP of Kværner ASA. Svanevik also worked nearly a decade in corporate advisory and investment banking. He started his career at Schlumberger, where he held various international financial management positions. Svanevik has an AMP from Harvard Business School and a MBA from Thunderbird.

Jona Takes Over as SVP at Cobham SATCOM

Cobham SATCOM has appointed Paul H. Jona as its new Senior Vice President (SVP). Starting March 03, 2014 Paul will work alongside incumbent SVP Walther Thygesen. After completing seven years of service as CEO of Thrane & Thrane A/S, and since July 2012 heading up Cobham SATCOM as SVP, Walther has decided to retire from his current duties in June 2014. Paul is a Dutch national born in Canada. He brings 30 years of experience in tech industries with him and his most recent position was CEO and Chairman of CoActive Technologies in The Netherlands, a $230M international company with 3,000 employees. Prior to this Paul was Senior Vice President and Corporate Officer of the Cable Systems Group at Amphenol Corporation.

Damen Books Four More Twin Axe FCS 2610 Orders

Marineco UK placed another order for two more Damen FCS 2610 Twin Axe vessels to serve its offshore wind activities, and Sure Wind, a British company specializing in the German market and new customer for Damen, has ordered two as well. The Scottish company Marineco was the first customer for the Damen Twin Axe vessel, which has become the industry standard since its introduction just over two years ago. Royal Caribbean Names New Senior Vice President

Royal Caribbean International announced the appointment of Carol Schuster to Senior Vice President of Marketing. Ms. Schuster joins the global cruise line with a proven track record and extensive background in building global brands, as well as new market entry, and will oversee all aspects of marketing for Royal Caribbean including brand strategy and positioning; consumer and trade advertising; digital and social media; and one-to-one and loyalty marketing. Most recently, Ms. Schuster ran a global marketing and brand consultancy and spearheaded the launch of U.S. women’s luxury apparel company, Lafayette 148 New York, in China. Prior to that, she held the position of worldwide managing director, Global Brand Management at the advertising agency, Ogilvy and Mather.

Damen Deliver Twin-Axe OSV to Marineco

The ‘Marineco Thunderbird’ is UK-based Marineco’s fourth FCS 2610 Twin Axe to join its windfarm support fleet of vessels. Marineco was the first customer to buy one of these vessels nearly two and a half years ago, based on a design for an Offshore and Offshore Wind support vessel which Damen really believed in. The recent purchase of Thunderbird, Damen say, is proof of the concept and its future. Siemens will be deploying Thunderbird off the west coast of England, where it will be used to perform installation and maintenance work for Walney Offshore Windfarms.

Fourth High-speed Support Vessel for Marineco

The Marineco Thunderbird is U.K.-based Marineco’s fourth FCS 2610 Twin Axe. Siemens will be deploying Thunderbird off the west coast of England, at the same latitude as Barrow, where it will be used to perform installation and maintenance work for Walney Offshore Windfarms. The vessel’s superstructure is spacious, offering sleeping accommodation (four two-person cabins) and making it possible for the crew to stay on-site for longer periods of time. The FCS 2008, a smaller version of the FCS 2610 with lower fuel consumption, will be introduced on the market in the summer of 2013.

Sea Technology Report

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), the largest independent institution of its kind in the world, recently began developing a new piston corer for retrieving sediments from the ocean floor. Once complete in 2006, the deep-water coring system will be the largest in the U.S. and among the biggest in the world.
