Port Everglades Receives 'Marine Highway' Designation

Port Everglades received approval from the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) for “Marine Highway” designation for a new route connecting Port Everglades with Port Houston, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI). National Shipping of America (NSA) will be the first company to offer service on this new route. Port Everglades is the first port to receive this designation in South Florida and is among only 45 others nationwide.“We are honored to be part of MARAD’s Marine Highway program,” said Jonathan Daniels, Port Everglades Chief Executive and Port Director.

North Carolina Ferry System Gains Marine Highway Project Designation

Tarmac, Forth Ports Team-up for Tilbury2

British building materials company Tarmac has partnered with London’s fastest growing port, the Port of Tilbury, to create the UK’s largest construction materials aggregates terminal at Tilbury2, the new port being constructed on the north bank of the River Thames.The work will see the creation of new aggregate processing and manufacturing facilities, including an asphalt and ready mix concrete plant, at the new port terminal, supported by the terminal’s deep sea capacity for vessels up to 100,000 metric tonnes. Gearing Up For U.S. Offshore Wind Power

Next year, developers hope to start building offshore wind turbines in the U.S., which is already a leader in on-land wind generation. As turbines spin off the coast in a dozen other countries, particularly the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany, global offshore wind capacity has expanded nearly six-fold since 2006. Most of these installations are in shallow water though winds are stronger out further. If the U.S. is to have offshore turbines, many residents want them distant enough so they can’t be seen or heard.

Corvus Energy to provide world’s largest ever hybrid propulsion marine battery pack for a Scandline diesel-electric ferry conversion. Corvus will provide Scandline with a 2.7MWh power pack consisting of an AT6500 advanced lithium polymer battery system for a conversion in an existing diesel electric ferry that delivers significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved maintenance costs and optimized engine performance. The ferry will be the first of its size and represents an early example of a change to greener transportation methods in the marine sector.
