Viega Fittings Get Additional U.S. Navy Approval

Viega, the first press fitting system to meet the standard for use on Navy combat ships, has won approval for additional components to be used onboard. Last year, the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) approved the use of MegaPress® CuNi press fittings in sizes ½" to 2" to be used in surface combatant vessels for a variety of systems, including chilled water, potable water, electronic freshwater cooling, seawater cooling, washdown countermeasures, drainage and many others. ProPress copper ½" fittings were also approved for potable water and various drains.

Viega announced on Monday that its MegaPress CuNi and ProPress copper fittings are the first press fittings approved for use in U.S. Navy combat ships.After years of rigorous testing, the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has approved the use of MegaPress CuNi mechanically attached fittings in sizes ½" to 2" in surface combatants for a variety of systems, including chilled water, potable water, electronic freshwater cooling, seawater cooling, washdown countermeasures, drainage and many others.

Viega Names Samona as Head of HR

Industry veteran Terry Samona has been named Vice President of Human Resources at Viega LLC.Samona oversees human resources management and development at Viega’s operations in the U.S., including headquarters and a seminar center in Broomfield, Colo.; a manufacturing plant and distribution hub in McPherson, Kan.; three additional distribution centers in Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania; and a seminar center in Nashua, N.H.Samona’s entire career has been in human resources. Prior to joining Viega, he was vice president of human resources at Hach Environmental.

Tracy to Lead Marine Division of Viega

Industry veteran T.J. Tracy has been named Director of the Marine Division at Viega LLC.Tracy is charged with further developing the company’s fast-growing marine division. Viega offers a full line of fittings and valves designed specifically for joining pipe systems on board military vessels, commercial vessels, oil platforms, cruise ships and mega yachts.  Tracy has spent his entire career in the maritime industry. Prior to joining Viega, he was vice president of sales and marketing at Survitec Group & Zodiac of North America.The Coast Guard veteran has a criminal justice degree from State University of New York College at Oswego. He and his wife have twin daughters. They live in Cambridge, Md.

Viega Names Fortuny Technical Manager

Viega LLC has hired Yasmin Fortuny as its new technical manager for its shipbuilding and cruise business development division in the Florida, Puerto Rico, Bahamas and Caribbean regions. In this position, Fortuny is responsible for positioning Viega as the primary choice for marine applications within the cruise line, shipbuilding, mega-yacht, commercial-vessel and military markets. She is also responsible for promoting all of Viega’s marine-approved products, educating key end users and promotion and distribution across all marine channels.

Viega LLC has hired Sean Debnath as its new vice president of sales and marketing, responsible for overseeing and managing Viega’s sales, marketing, inside sales, customer services and customer relations departments. Debnath has more than 20 years of industry experience. He started his career as a hands-on scientist and gradually transitioned himself to the commercial side of the business. Prior to joining Viega, he has held vice president and director level positions in sales and marketing at Kaydon Corporation, Rexnord and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Viega Relocates Its US Headquarters

Viega LLC announced that it will move its North American headquarters to Broomfield, Colorado, where it will build a new headquarters and educational training facility, with construction set to begin this summer. Relocation activities will begin immediately, to temporary office space, with the move completed by December 31, 2017. Viega LLC employs nearly 500 people in North America, with a central manufacturing and distribution center in McPherson, Kansas, as well as distribution centers in Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania, and another educational training facility in New Hampshire.

Elwood Ide Joins Viega

Elwood Ide has joined Viega LLC as the company’s newest technical manager for shipbuilding and offshore for the West Coast. In this position, Ide will provide analysis, forecasts and guidance for developing the marine and offshore business in the California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii and British Columbia region. He will also introduce and train engineers and craftsmen to use and install new solutions that meet rigorous marine and offshore challenges. Ide has more than 40 years of piping design engineering experience for the commercial, industrial, military and marine industries.

Viega Becomes Partner Member with SCA

Viega LLC has announced its membership with Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), making it the first member representing the state of Kansas. SCA’s mission aims to support and promote the American shipyard industry, which includes ship builders, repairers and the associated supplier base, by providing strategic information and expertise for Viega’s membership and advocating on their behalf before Congress, the executive branch and the media. “Viega understands the importance of supporting the SCA and its members to help U.S. shipbuilders construct and repair today’s ships with tomorrow’s technology,” said Paul Switzer, Technical Manager, shipbuilding and offshore with Viega.

New System for Marine Pipe-joining Applications

Viega LLC, a provider of pipe-joining solutions, announced the availability of the Viega SeaPress system for a variety of marine pipe-joining applications from potable water, to fuel, to fire sprinkler. The Viega SeaPress system is a 90/10 copper-nickel alloy suited for seawater systems, and according to the manufacturer is the only copper-nickel press fitting with a double-press connection. Viega SeaPress is available with adapters to transition to imperial and metric sizes.
