FMM, Vigor Deliver Response Boats to Bahrain

Fincantieri Marinette Marine (FMM) and Vigor (Team RB-M) has announced the delivery of the first three on a six vessel RB-M contract to the US Coast Guard. The boats are part of a Foreign Military Sale to The Kingdom of Bahrain’s Coast Guard. Hulls four through six are expected to ship in 2020. A total of 182 RB-Ms have been built by Team RB-M.FMM was the prime contractor and program manager. Vigor fabricated the vessels at its Seattle, Washington facility using high temp resistant aluminum.

Samson Completes Facility Expansions

Samson has completed its 15,000-square-foot expansion at its Ferndale Washington facility. The expansion includes a new Innovation and Training Center (ITC) and several enhancements to the manufacturing area. According to Samson, the ITC was designed to create an environment of collaboration and innovation, now housing the research and development and quality functions, as well as an expanded test lab. The office space accommodates 16 engineers and field service technicians, nine quality assurance technical professionals, a large-capacity training room and a full testing facility.

Shipyard Fincantieri Gains Large USCG Order

At the Cruise Shipping Miami Conference and Exhibition, Fincantieri took the opportunity to announce it has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Coast Guard for the construction of 40 boats, scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2013. With an approximate value of $89,600,000, the new boats are part of a multi-year, U.S. Coast Guard contract for the construction and delivery of up to 250 Response Boats – Medium RB-Ms ) at a total contract value of up to $600 million. Cortland Expands Anacortes Facility

US cable, rope and umbilical specialist Cortland has expanded its Washington facility in Anacortes. The expansion focus is on the creation of upgraded sales, engineering and administrative spaces. The Anacortes expansion will add an additional 4,800 square feet to the facility, bringing the total square footage to over 82,000. The new area will include 13 new offices, 2 conference rooms, a staff break room and create nearly 3,000 square feet of manufacturing space where the administrative offices are currently located.

One Out ... Two In

When Dunlap Towing of LaConner, Wash., bought the James T. Quig a couple of years ago, they renamed her the Rosario. Now the good tug is getting a lot more than a name change. The boat, built in the late 1970s or early '80's, originally had a single engine installed but she had been designed with enough beam for a twin engine installation. She has been operated with a single 900 hp main but now she will get two Cummins KTA38 main engines to be operated at 800 hp each to nearly double the boat's output to 1,600 hp. The beamy 64 x 21-ft. boat can easily handle the two engines. With the beam carried well aft, Dunlap's operations manager…
