ZF Marine LLC takes delivery of ZF POD 4000 demonstration vessel
ZF Marine has taken delivery of a new 50 foot Viking Sportfishing yacht. The purpose of this vessel will be to demonstrate the ZF POD 4000 propulsion system. The vessel is equipped with two Caterpillar C18 engines each producing 1150 bhp. These engines are mated to ZF 500 series transmissions, which are connected to the POD units via Centa carbon fiber driveshafts. The ZF POD 4000 drives are the highest rated propulsion pods in the market today, rated to 1200 bhp. Control for the ZF POD 4000 comes from ZF Marine’s well established SmartCommand control system…
Susan Mortgu Joins ZF Marine
ZF Marine welcomes Susan Mortgu as the newest addition to its team. Mortgu is the new account manager for the Northeast US and Atlantic Canada. She will be reporting to David Santos, Commercial Craft Segment Manager. A graduate of Kings Point (USMMA) and additional studies at University of Delaware’s school of Marine Policy, Mortgu comes to ZF Marine LLC with a wealth of experience in the industry. She is a certified project manager with over 10 years experience in shipyard project management, including new construction, repair and refit for both pleasure and commercial vessels.
ZF Marine N American Distributor for Velox Plus
ZF Marine announced that they are now the North American distributor for Velox Plus antifouling paint. Well known by mariners worldwide, Velox Plus is an antifouling paint specifically designed to be used on underwater metal. Previously unavailable in North America, Italian based Marlin yacht paints have appointed ZF Marine LLC as the North American distributor for this product. Underwater marine growth is a common problem for vessel owners. While hull coatings have been designed to limit growth on the hull itself, the underwater fittings and shaftline have been exposed to marine growth, increasing drag, increasing fuel burn and potentially reducing engine life due to increased loading by a fouled shaftline.

Roland’s years of experience as a technician with ZF Marine at our St. Rose, La. facility will serve him well as he works with fleet operators to expand ZF’s presence into the Texas Gulf and Inland River territories. ZF Marine Mourns the Passing of Tom Katica
It is with sadness that the ZF Marine Group recognizes the passing of Thomas P. “Tom” Katica, our colleague and long time Account Manager for the Western Region. On July 8, 2010, after a two year battle with cancer, Tom finally succumbed peacefully in his home on Whidbey Island, surrounded by family. “This is a great loss, not only for ZF Marine, but the marine industry as a whole,” said Wolfgang Schmid, President and General Manager, ZF Marine LLC. “Tom’s passion for our business and this industry was clearly evident every single day. His warm smile greeted everyone he met, and his infectious personality created many life-long friendships.

ZF Marine opens Technical Training Center
ZF Marine LLC, the North American subsidiary of ZF Marine Group in Padova, opened its new , located at ZF Marine's new North American headquarters facility in Miramar, FL. It is designed to provide ZF Marine’s authorized North and Central American service partners with comprehensive training modules on all of ZF Marine’s family of products. “Expanding our training capabilities was one of the priorities when we were building our new headquarters facility. Our rapidly expanding product offering combined with the ongoing expansion of our independent service network made sending factory training personnel into the field inefficient,” said Tim McFarland Aftermarket Segment Manager.
ZF Marine Restructures East Coast Activities
ZF Marine LLC, the North American subsidiary of ZF Marine Group in Padova, Italy has implemented some changes to its East Coast service network. To better coordinate service activities up and down the Eastern Seaboard, ZF Marine LLC will now schedule all field service activities out of its South Florida service center in Miramar, FL. Vessel owners requiring service support from ZF Marine can now dial 1-877-896-4040 and be connected to ZF Marine 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With the global acquisition this past August of HRP Thrusters, ZF Marine will consolidate its Warwick, R.I., Annapolis, Md, and Jarrett Bay, N.C. service activities to ZF HRP North America’s soon to be opened new location in Chichester, Pa.

The new ZF 9000 Series transmissions from ZF Marine are the latest in a long history of industry leading marine transmissions designed to handle the demands of high-power engines. ZF Marine Names New Segment Manger
ZF Marine has appointed Tim McFarland as Aftermarket Segment Manager. McFarland joined ZF Marine LLC in 1997 as an Inside Technical Representative and most recently was Senior Aftermarket Center Manager. In his new position McFarland will have full responsibility for ZF Marine LLC’s parts and service business in North and Central America, and the . He will also oversee the operation of ZF Marine LLC’s nine wholly owned service facilities that provide ZF component factory support for vessel operators throughout the , including and . McFarland replaces Gary Nelson, who will retire from ZF Marine LLC at the end of 2008. Currently based at ZF Marine’s , , service facility, McFarland will relocate to the headquarters.
ZF Marine Names New Account Manager
ZF Marine announced that Stephen Taylor has been appointed Account Manager for the Gulf Coast and Inland River region. Taylor comes to ZF Marine with 20 years of Marine Propulsion experience working on commercial and government projects, in project management, and sales and marketing. Taylor will be based out of ZF Marine LLC's St Rose, Louisiana facility.
