Coast Guard Medevacs from Two Carnival Cruise Ships

A Coast Guard helicopter airlifted a 25-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman from the 'Carnival Splendor', and the same day lifted a 36-year-old passenger from the 'Carnival Dream'.

The Coast Guard informs that the cruise ship was approximately 135 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina when it requested medical help. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, hoisted two patients into the helicopter and took them to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

'Carnival Dream'
Watchstanders with the Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center received a report that a 36-year-old passenger on the cruise ship was suffering from acute appendicitis and needed immediate medical attention.

Carnival Dream was located173 miles southeast of Main Pass, and the 8th Coast Guard District responded by launching an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama. The helicopter crew safely hoisted the patient and flew him to West Jefferson Medical Center for further medical treatment where he was later listed in stable condition.
