Multiple Agency Responds to Oil Spill
Multiple agencies responded to a reported 1,050-gallon oil spill near the Conoco Phillips facility in .
The facility reported that the spill occurred during a transfer from barge to pier and the discharge was the result of equipment failure from the facility side. The product is mostly on land, however, a 20 by 30-foot area of oil in the water has been contained with a boom. The source of the spill has been secured.
Coast Guard Sector and New York Department of Environmental Protection pollution investigators and response personnel arrived on scene at about 10:50 a.m. A Coast Guard Station rescue boat crew conducted an assessment of the area. There is no reported product outside the containment boom.
Miller Environmental and Clean Harbor Environmental Services are on scene conducting clean up and recovery efforts.
The incident is under investigation.
