Ship Newbuilding Market Remains Active

The newbuilding market has continued to remain active with various new orders being reported placed in a variety of the conventional sectors, including both the Dry, Container markets and PCTC’s, reports the Clarkson Hellas S&P Weekly Bulletin.

In the dry bulk market we continue to see a steady stream of orders surfacing in the handymax sector, whilst the other sectors have seen a range of sizes being contracted.

In Dry: clients of Spar shipping are reported to have placed an order at Hantong Shipyard for a pair of SDARI Dolphin 64K bulkers. These vessels follow a variety of ultramax orders at the yard this year and are expected to deliver in 1H 2015, pricing stands in the region of USD 25 Mill. Although understood to have been ordered last month, Wisdom Marine have placed an order at Tsuneishi Cebu for a pair of their 58,000dwt Supramax design. Pricing has not been disclosed though delivery expected in 2015.

In Containers: Clarkson Hellas S&P Weekly Bulletin says that Hamburg Sud are reported to have placed a follow up order at Hyundai Heavy Industries for 3 x 9,000 TEU container carriers with delivery of the vessels expected in 2H 2014. In China meanwhile, clients of Simatech Shipping are reported to have placed an order at Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding for 2+2 x 4,350 TEU container ships. No pricing has been reported for these units, though delivery is expected from Mid 2015 onwards.

Finally, in the PCTC sector, Wallenius Lines AB are understood to have concluded a deal with Tianjin Xingang for 2 option 2 x 8,000 CEU PCTCs. These will be the first PCTCs to be built by the yard and expected to deliver from 2H 2015 onwards.
