Stephen Trotter, Managing Director for ABB’s UK Power Systems business, takes a seat on new UK Government advisory board.

He is to represent the electrical, cables and transmission and distribution fields on a new board set up by the Government to shape the future of project delivery in the offshore wind sector.

As one of 11 industry members, Stephen will sit on the Offshore Wind Programme Board alongside other senior representatives from Government, the Crown Estate and Statutory Nature Conservation advisors.

The Offshore Wind Programme Board has been established following the recommendations in the Offshore Wind Cost Reduction Task Force report and is based on successful models used in other sectors such as the Oil and Gas PILOT group.

Held in late November, the inaugural meeting set the scene for the board’s objectives, which are to help reduce the cost of offshore wind to £100 per megawatt hour by 2020, tackle the barriers to offshore wind and develop the UK supply chain.

Speaking of his appointment to the board, Stephen Trotter said:

“This invitation recognises both the importance of offshore wind and also ABB’s 30 years of experience in wind energy. As a leading supplier to the wind power industry of electrical products and solutions and with a sound understanding of the needs of wind power customers at every stage of the process from generation to grid integration, ABB has much to bring to the table."
