Briggs Equipment is helping Peel Ports Liverpool to maintain the nation's supply of animal feed after securing a multi-million pound contract to supply and service JCB equipment to one of the country's busiest ports.

One of Britain's largest port groups, the Peel Ports Group operates five major gateways, handling a broad spectrum of international trade amounting to more than 65 million tons of cargo a year. The Peel Ports facility in Liverpool is home to the country's largest animal feed store and as a result has taken delivery of five new JCB wheel loaders supplied by Briggs.

David Huck, Head of Port Operations Mersey, says the three JCB457 ZX, two JCB426 ZX and one JCB427 ZX models will play an essential role in the expansion of the store.

"At 250,000 square feet, the store is already the largest of its kind in the UK and the extension will further expand capacity by around 60 percent," David explained.

"The new loaders are essential to our future plans and Briggs was able to provide us with a complete solution in providing both new equipment and a continued high level of service supporting operations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year."

David also stressed the importance of the availability of parts for the trucks in the event of a breakdown, a further factor in the decision to acquire the JCB units through Briggs - as was the backup provided by an extensive short-term rental fleet, available to suit. All the new equipment has also been modified to reduce the risk of sparking a fire or explosion.

"With our resident on-site Briggs engineers and close working relationship with JCB this means there are no delays when it comes to addressing an issue or replacing a part."

In addition to the five JCB trucks supplied to Liverpool, Briggs has also provided three JCB wheel loaders to the Peel Ports facility in Runcorn, and there are three additional units on order. All eleven machines will be fitted with Briggs' exclusive Speedshield telemetry system that further improves efficiency and supports operator safety and daily maintenance checks.

With safety high on the agenda Speedshield ensures operator access is controlled and provides full health and safety audits and compliance reporting. The intelligent asset management tool also provides real-time data for reporting, fleet utilization and control
