MAN Diesel & Turbo now main sponsor of the Augsburg Philarmonic Orchestra

MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, the leading international manufacturer of large-bore diesel engines and turbomachinery, is to become the main sponsor of the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra. The aim of the cooperation is to attract more internationally prominent artists to Augsburg and to raise the profile of the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra in the region and beyond. The sponsorship is to last for three years initially. Both partners signed the cooperation agreement on 24 April 2012 in Augsburg Town Hall, and gave a joint press conference to announce their future cooperation.

“Our commitment allows us to offer the citizens of this city and our employees an even richer cultural programme – which is also an important source of inspiration for creative ideas and innovation,” states Executive Board Spokesman Dr. René Umlauft, explaining the intentions behind MAN Diesel & Turbo's decision.

The cooperation came about on the initiative of General Music Director Dirk Kaftan, who was looking for new opportunities to develop the artistic work of his orchestra. Kaftan first contacted MAN Diesel & Turbo two years ago in his search for alternative performance venues, resulting in the orchestra playing two acclaimed concerts at the MAN PrimeServ Academy, the company's in-house training centre for service engineers. This success was repeated in 2011 and ultimately led to the current cooperation.

The cooperation between MAN Diesel & Turbo and the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra kicks off with the opening concert in the newly renovated Convention Centre on 20 May 2012.
