Plibrico, an industry leader in monolithic refractories, and maritime repair specialist Nordic Made Boiler Services, Inc. (NMBS), announced a global strategic partnership to deliver retrofit supplies and services to the world's cruise ship operators. With the partnership, NMBS will use Plibrico's Plico brand refractories in the retrofitting of cruise ship boilers and waste incinerators needed to ensure passenger safety and comfort.

"Partnering with Nordic Made Boiler Services, enables Plibrico to help improve maritime operations the world over reducing cruise ship costs and their energy consumption," said Brad Taylor, President & CEO of Plibrico. "Combining our refractories with NMBS's retrofit solutions means that together we can extend the reach of our most advanced heat treatment technology."

More than 20 million people annually take cruise vacations. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, in the course of one day the average cruise ship uses 170,000 gallons of water for showers, sinks and laundry, underscoring the importance of proper boiler operations. Since 2011 NMBS has supplied the maritime industry with boiler parts, field service and technical teams to ensure reliable, energy-efficient operation in all major categories of vessels.

Equally as important as water, is the disposal of waste. A cruise ship can generate up to 10 tons of waste every 24 hours that must be disposed. While some of the waste is recycled, processed or offloaded, paper and other materials are burned in onboard incinerators with the heat used as a renewable source of hot water. As with boilers, NMBS will use Plico refractories in the refurbishing of incinerators for a cleaner and healthier environment.

NMBS operates in a variety of industries in addition to the maritime market, and will be the exclusive distributor for Plico materials in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Poland, Spain, Holland, and Belgium. It will also be joining the Plibrico PliPartner network of certified installation and repair companies. As a PliPartner, NMBS will have full access to Plibrico's knowledgeable engineering services and will receive collaborative assistance in materials specification that will prove highly valuable to NMBS customers.

The partnership will take full advantage of Plibrico's high-quality aluminosilicate and high-alumina monolithic refractory materials. Demonstrating superior insulating properties, Plibrico refractories are an ideal choice in the containment of heat generated by the marine boiler, therefore minimizing heat loss and ensuring reliable hot water for ship passengers. Plibrico refractories are proven to endure severe pressures, demanding wear and chemical processes .. and can withstanding a boiler's extreme high temperatures and thermal shock. The net result, maritime customers experience improved operational uptime, lowered maintenance costs and maximum energy efficiencies due to Plibrico quality materials and NMBS' professional services.
