LISCR refocuses London office

The Liberian International Ship and Corporate Registry (LISCR), which manages the Liberian Registry, has refocused its London office in order to provide shipowners and IMO with more experienced technical support. LISCR has appointed Peter Kidman, former Intercargo technical manager, to head up the office. Kidman is an experienced master mariner who is also qualified in maritime law. He has extensive experience of working with international shipping authorities. Yoram Cohen, ceo of LISCR, says, "London is a key international shipping centre and our office there has two challenging roles. One is to support the daily functions of the registry, working with London's shipping law community on documenting the registration of vessels and recording of mortgages, and the other is to provide expert technical support both at IMO, where Liberia plays a major role in safeguarding the interest of shipowners, and in liaison with other maritime bodies such as International Association of Classification Societies, International Chamber of Shipping, Intercargo and Intertanko. Dealing with increasing regulatory pressure places new demands on responsible flag states like ours, and it is critical that we have the right staff to implement changes such as the ISPS Code. We are pleased that Peter has taken on this challenge and feel sure our owners will see the benefits of a stronger maritime technical focus in London." Kidman says, "I'm pleased to join the world's best shipping registry. The Liberian Registry leads the world in setting standards and providing service to owners, and its track record of high quality and safety is unsurpassed by any large registry. My role will be to give owners the support they need at the centre of decision making of the international maritime world."
