General Dynamics NASSCO announced the retirement of Janice S. Grace, its senior vice president of operations, on June 30. Grace, 55, had served as the shipyard’s second-ranking executive since February 2004. "This shipyard is indebted to the significant contributions and outstanding leadership of Janice Grace," said Frederick J. Harris, president of General Dynamics NASSCO. "She is a pioneer in our industry and for this shipyard. She has left her mark on the shipbuilding that will take place here well into the future." As senior vice president of operations, Grace was responsible for all production, engineering, materials, master planning and information systems activities at the shipyard. A graduate of the University of California – Irvine, she began working at the shipyard in April 1974 as a material analyst. She was the first woman promoted to vice president and then senior vice president at the shipyard. The company does not plan to name a senior vice president of operations at this time.
