The new Rolls-Royce Marine Trent 30 gas turbine is designed to bring technologically driven Trent aero engine innovation to the cruise industry. Available for service in either mechanical or electrical genset applications for both commercial and naval markets, the Trent 30 will be available for delivery in 2004.
Boasting a power rating of 36 MW and cost effective, the turbine is ideal for cruise liners, fast ferries and LNG vessels.
The Trent 30 offers propulsion system designers optimum flexibility as it can replace the need for two turbines, thus saving on space and reducing operating and ownership costs. Measuring 8.9 x 3.5 x 4.3 m, it is lightweight and compact, its total package including enclosure and auxiliaries, weighing less than 26,000 kg.
Already proven in the field of aerospace, the Trent 30 is derived from Rolls-Royce’s Trent 800 aero engine, which has virtually transformed civil aerospace engineering. “The Marine Trent 30 brings leading-edge, proven, aero gas turbine technology to the marine marketplace – making a step-change in performance, simplicity and maintainability,” said Dr. Saul Lanyado, Rolls Royce president – Marine.
The 11th engine type derived from core aero engine technology, the Marine Trent 30’s two spool compressor design offers reduced start times, good balance retention and no lock up problems, thus resulting in greater operational flexibility. It can be replaced within 12 hours of engine cool down and is easily transportable by land, sea or air for module separation – dockside or at the repair and overhaul base.
