Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

December 20, 2001

Schlumberger Limited announced today that vice chairman Victor Grijalva will retire at the end of the year. The milestones in Grijalva's successful 37-year career with Schlumberger are mirrored in the company's success over nearly four decades. Commemorating Grijalva's longstanding leadership, chairman, president and CEO Euan Baird remarked, "In an impressive series of management positions around the world, Victor has made an enormous contribution to the success of the company during a period which has seen many changes and huge swings in upstream activity. Victor provided key leadership in our drive to change the cultural base of the company and his judgment and personal integrity have been recognized throughout the oil industry." Graduating with a BS in electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and an MS in electrical engineering from The University of Pennsylvania, Grijalva entered the Schlumberger ranks as a senior development engineer in Houston in 1964. After numerous field assignments around the world, and after serving as vice president of personnel for Schlumberger Limited in 1984, Grijalva became president of Wireline and Testing for the company's North American operations in 1985. Having steered Schlumberger through the mid-1980 industry downturn, he was named executive vice president of Schlumberger Wireline and Testing and Anadrill in 1989 and executive vice president of Oilfield Services in 1993. Just under ten years later in 1998, Grijalva became vice chairman of Schlumberger Limited. Grijalva serves as chairman of the board of Transocean Sedco Forex, on the board of the American Petroleum Institute and is a member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
