16 deserving students were awarded with the Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarship. Mr Fock Siew Wah, Group Chairman of PSA International (PSA), presented the award certificates to the students at a ceremony held in PSA Building in Singapore today. The bond-free scholarships will pay for tuition and other compulsory fees in full, as well as book and living allowances.

The 16 Howe Yoon Chong PSA scholars will be pursuing academic studies at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Polytechnics and local Universities. Since its inception in 2009, the Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarship program has made a difference to the lives of over 110 young Singaporeans.

The Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarship recognises the recipients' leadership qualities and non-academic contributions in areas such as community work and social services, even though they themselves come from trying and challenging family backgrounds.

“I congratulate the scholars on their achievements despite the difficult circumstances in their lives and I commend them for continuing to give back to society. The Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarship was set up to help such deserving students reach for a better and brighter future.

This year, in commemoration of Singapore's 50th year of Independence, I am pleased to announce that PSA would be donating another S$1million to the Howe Yoon Chong PSA Endowment Fund. It is our sincere hope that this contribution will help to expand the number of scholarships offered every year going forward and ultimately benefit more young Singaporeans who need a helping hand.” said Mr Fock Siew Wah, Group Chairman, PSA International.

The Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarships are funded by the Howe Yoon Chong PSA Endowment Fund, named in honour of the late Mr Howe Yoon Chong who was Chairman of the then Port of Singapore Authority from 1970 to 1979. Supported by contributions from PSA, Temasek Holdings and NSL Ltd, the Fund was set up in 2008 under the auspices of local charity organisation Trailblazer Foundation to provide scholarships for Singaporean students from low income families who have triumphed over trying and difficult circumstances and contributed actively outside the classroom.
