Donation supports students pursuing corrosion-, coatings-related degrees.

The PPG Industries Foundation has donated $10,000 to create two annual scholarships provided through the NACE International Foundation, a 501(c)(3) entity affiliated with NACE International, The Corrosion Society. Two students pursuing postsecondary academic degrees related to corrosion or coatings each received a $5,000 scholarship on behalf of PPG. The 2014 winners were:

  • Kaitlyn Martin of Baytown, Texas, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering at Colorado School of Mines, and
  • Azra Turajlic of Fort Worth, Texas, a freshman majoring in petroleum engineering at Louisiana State University.

“We appreciate PPG’s generous donation, which is helping NACE Foundation support the next generation of corrosion control specialists,” said Neil Thompson, president of the NACE International Foundation board. “By creating these scholarships, PPG expands learning opportunities that can benefit the overall coatings and corrosion fields.”

NACE International is a global authority on corrosion control and has a longstanding relationship with PPG’s protective and marine coatings (PMC) business. PPG exhibits at NACE International trade shows, provides expert speakers for its conferences, and enrolls employees in specialized NACE training programs. Students supported by these NACE Foundation scholarships are studying science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines related to corrosion control in undergraduate degree programs.

“The PPG NACE Foundation scholarship provides an opportunity for PPG to invest in potential future industry leaders,” said Tim Knavish, PPG vice president, global protective and marine coatings. “Providing financial support to these students helps us contribute to the vitality of STEM-related fields and companies such as ours that rely on innovation.”
