Sea-Fire FM-200 Systems Supress Fire Quickly and Safely

Traditional fire extinguishing agents can cause major damage to─or even destroy─the very things they are meant to protect.  Boatbuilders and owners worldwide trust their assets to FG and FD model Sea-Fire pre-engineered suppression systems.  They employ FM-200, which is both safe for people and environmentally responsible. Sea-Fire's FG series is perfect for protecting enclosed engine compartments, covering areas from 25 to 240 cu. ft.  Available in 20 sizes, FG models feature lightweight, compact, corrosion-resistant aluminum cylinders for easy fit and installation.

The FD series protects areas from 150 to 1,500 cu. ft.  These cylinders are refillable and, with 54 standard models to choose from, fit most engine compartments. Both models are available in automatic or manual/automatic configurations.  They come with a pressure gauge and switch, a protective guard, mounting bracket and indicator light with bezel.

FM-200, an EPA-approved alternative to halon, is safe where people are present and leaves behind no oily residue, particulate or water.  Reaching extinguishing levels in 10 seconds or less, FM-200 stops combustible, electrical and flammable liquid fires.  When fire is extinguished this quickly, the result is lower repair costs and an extra margin of safety for those aboard.

Selecting the correct Sea-Fire model size is relatively easy.  The volume of area to be protected is determined by multiplying the compartment's length by its width and height, without deducting for engines, removable tanks or other equipment.  It is important to note that only one extinguisher may be used to protect a compartment.  Several extinguishers may be fitted, provided that each independent extinguisher is capable of protecting the entire volume of the protected space.

In addition to its pre-engineered FG and FD series, Sea-Fire Marine custom-engineered systems are available for protecting spaces larger than 1,500 cu. ft.  For these applications, the company provides a detailed proposal after the convenient Design Guide on its website is completed. Complying with strict global standards, FM-200 certifications include USCG, Germanischer Lloyd, DNV, RINA, Maritime New Zealand and CE. Sea-Fire Marine on the WEB: www.sea-fire.com.
