ABS Nautical Systems Signs Caspian Drilling Company
Caspian Drilling Company, based in Azerbaijan, will install ABS Nautical Systems’ NS5 Enterprise software on four of its drilling rigs. Three of these rigs will take advantage of the ABS Newbuild Program and the Transfer of Class Agreement Initiative (TOCA)* by implementing the Hull Inspection and Maintenance & Repair modules. China Shipyard Delivers AHTS to Vroon Offshore
The VOS Athos is a 59-metre "A class" anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel and the first of three vessels being built at this yard for Vroon with the additional class ABS notation "Oil recovery Class 2". The "A-class" vessels are slightly more advanced than the "H-type" and "T-Type" AHTS vessels also operated by Vroon, having a bigger bow thruster (8 MT) and, in addition, a stern thruster (6 MT). Consequently, they have improved manoeuvring and station-keeping capabilities.
GPA Completes 254L AHTS Series Delivery with 54th Hull
Earlier this year, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) completed a major milestone with the delivery of the final of 54 GPA 254L AHTS vessels, also known as the Bourbon Liberty 200 series, at Zhejiang Shipyard in China. In 2006, BOURBON Offshore placed an order with GPA for the Basic Design and Contract/Regulatory Package for 26 of these identical vessels. In 2007, the order was expanded by an additional 28 vessels.
ABS Endows UC Berkeley Chair in Ocean Engineering
Professor Ronald W. Yeung has received the inaugural appointment to this chair for a five-year term, effective 1 July 2012 through 30 June 2017. ABS has had a longstanding commitment to education. “We believe that encouraging students in engineering is crucial to the future of the industry,” says ABS President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki. Professor Yeung’s involvement at UC Berkeley is evidence that he takes leadership roles like this one seriously.
Vroon Name Subsea Support Vessel
VOS Shine was christened by Mrs Gwen Klaphake, wife of Mr Rolf de Vries, Managing Director, Blue Stream Offshore B.V.. the first charterer of the vessel. The new vessel is a DP-2 Subsea Support Vessel, built at Fujian Southeast Shipyard, Fuzhou in China.
China's Taizhou Sanfu Yard Launches Bulker
Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering Co. The builders say that this was the first PSPC compliant vessel ever built in their yard (referring to IMO's 'Performance Standard for Protective Coatings) which applies to dedicated seawater ballast tanks in all types of ships and double-side skin spaces of bulk carriers. The vessel is 230.0 m LOA, with a molded breadth of 38.0m, and a design draft of 12.50 m. Speed is 14.90 knots. The new bulk carrier is classed by ABS .

OSV Almojil 60 is the first delivery in a pair of sisterships for the Mohammad Al Mojil Group in Saudi Arabia to a design by Wartsilla Ship Design Singapore Pte. Ltd. Construction is to ABS class, with the notation +A1 circle E, +AMS Offshore Support Vessel. Propulsion power comes from a pair of Caterpillar 3512C diesels, each developing 1575hp at 1800rpm, turning 2m diameter fixed pitch four bladed propellers to provide a top speed of 12 knots.
