DNV GL’s Debuts New Survey Reporting System
Classification society DNV GL introduced a new form of reporting that it claims revolutionizes survey reporting for fleet managers. The newly structured report defines safety barriers and trends, using DNV GL's experience with barrier management in the offshore oil and gas industry. In collaboration with a major cruise line, DNV GL implemented the new barrier management reporting program. Survey data from 23 cruise ships was included in the pilot program.

USCG-approved Tests of Alfa Laval PureBallast on Track
Following the United States Coast Guard (USCG) decision not to accept the most probable number (MPN) method in assessing ballast water treatment systems, tests of Alfa Laval PureBallast are underway using the USCGA-approved 5 chloromethylfluorescein diacetate (CMFDA) staining method. With completion expected during Q2 of 2016, the tests will enable a new USCG type approval application after receiving the results.

Modulift Below-the-Hook Equipment for Bern Bridge Project
Two 70t Modulift spreader beams were integral to the reinstallation of a bridge, lowered back into position by two mobile cranes lifting in tandem. Swiss crane rental company Senn AG used two Liebherrs, each rigged with below-the-hook equipment, to return the refurbished bridge across the Aare river in Bern, Switzerland’s capital. Oftringen, Switzerland-based Senn is a multifaceted business, which is also a specialist in the provision of steel construction and infrastructure projects.
18 New Ferries Needed for New NYC Ferry Service
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the Citywide Ferry Service is on track to launch in 2017, with the selection of Hornblower, Inc. as its operator. The new service, which will include up to 20 boats and connect 21 New York City eighborhoods for the price of a single subway ride ($2.75) is scheduled to be fully operational by 2018, and is estimated to carry 4.6 million trips per year across six routes.
