New Tug Deliverd to Boluda
Boluda Towage and Salvage has taken delivery of the newly built VB Xaloc, the first tug of the ownerâs multi-boat order from Astilleros Zamakona and first of Robert Allan Ltd.âs TRAktor 3200-V class escort tugs. The TRAktor 3200-V was designed by Robert Allan Ltd. specifically to meet Boludaâs requirements for performance, propulsion equipment, accommodation facilities, tank capacities and all within a gross tonnage (GRT) limit of less than 500.
Tech File: BoomVane - A Powerful Boom Deployment System
The BoomVane is one of the most useful and interesting tools available to oil spill responders for shoreline and single vessel boom deployment. Maintaining an effective oil containment boom configuration with two vessels is difficult to coordinate. The Elastec BoomVane solves that problem. BoomVane can also tow heavier booms greater distances than an outrigger arm resulting in wider sweep swaths. Illinois-based Elastec is the manufacturer and owner of the proprietary BoomVane technology.
Jawar Al Khaleej Orders Three Vessels
At this yearâs Seatrade Maritime Middle East Exhibition taking place in Dubai, Jawar Al Khaleej Shipping LLC (JAK) signed a contract with Damen Shipyards Group for the supply of three vessels: one Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 5009 and two ASD Tugs 3213. JAK is a provider of specialist services to the offshore oil and gas sector in the Gulf, delivering logistical support including oil terminal support services, towage and salvage, together with other integrated offshore solutions.
World First: Unmanned Autonomous Boat for Offshore Ops
While talk of autonomous operations in the maritime sector have swirled for years, the talk becomes reality as Automated Ships Ltd. (an M Subs Ltd subsidiary) and Norwayâs Kongsberg Maritime signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build the worldâs first unmanned and fully-automated vessel for offshore operations. In January 2017, Automated Ships Ltd will contract the âHrönnâ, which will be designed and built in Norway in cooperation with KONGSBERG.
DryShips Sells 5 Vessels
DryShips Inc., an international owner of drybulk carriers and offshore support vessels, has sold five of its Panamax vessels for an aggregate gross price of $29.4 million.
Ship Operating Costs Set to Rise -Survey
Vessel operating costs are expected to rise in both 2016 and 2017, according to the latest survey by international accountant and shipping consultant Moore Stephens. Repairs and maintenance and spares are the cost categories which are likely to increase most significantly in each of the two years. The survey is based on responses from key players in the international shipping industry, predominantly shipowners and managers in Europe and Asia.

Japan Grants Patent for EnergySail
