NSRP Highlights 19 New Shipbuilding & Repair R&D Projects
The National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) Executive Control Board (ECB) recently selected 19 new R&D projects to be executed, totalling approximately $2.5-million, as part of their core project mission to reduce the costs associated with Navy shipbuilding and repair.
NSRP is a collaboration of U.S. shipyards working together to reduce the cost of building, operating and repairing Navy ships by improving productivity and quality through advanced technology and processes. NSRP leverages public/private cooperation to manage cost-shared R&D based on a consensus Strategic Investment Plan. The R&D projects are as follows:
- Low Voltage Quick Connector Evaluation
- Flexible Interface for Automated Circuit Tester for Level 1 Testing
- Control Technology Comparison for Heavy Metals Removal from Shipyard Storm Water Run-off
- Development of a Data Management Application (Emissions Tracker) to Reduce Labor and Increase Accuracy in the Regulatory Reporting of Environmental Emissions
- Requirements for a Shipbuilding Drawingless Environment
- Modular Scaffolding for Block Outfitting
- Validation of Analysis Methods for Padeye Attachment Under Dynamic Loading through Destructive Testing
- Metals in Paint Analysis Using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)
- Noise Control for Portable Ventilation Blowers
- Outfit Attachments on Thin Plate Vessels
- Reducing Inspection Costs Using the Latest Digital Inspection Tools
- Cost Savings Comparison in Application of Polysiloxane vs. Silicone Alkyd Topcoats
- Robust Functional Paperless Paint Phase II, Future State Implementation
- Standardized Foundations Database for Combat Systems
- Ship Warfare Systems Interface Descriptions
- Copper and Fiber Optic Test Equipment Integration into Shipyard Processes
- Development and Evaluation of ICE Welding Procedures for Thick Plate
- Survey of Small (< 3" NPS) Valve Welding Techniques to Protect Heat Damageable Material
- Autogenous Pipe Welding
