July 8, 2015

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received an order to retrofit both electrically and mechanically two ship-to-shore (STS) cranes for Alexandria Container & Cargo Handling Co. (ACCHCO) at the Port of Alexandria, Egypt.

The order was signed into Cargotec's 2015 second quarter order intake, and the project is planned to be completed by the end of 2015. The value of the order is approximately $3.9 million.

The cranes, originally supplied by Cerretti Tanfany, have been operational since 1995. The cranes will be fully refurbished both electrically and mechanically, replacing the most critical components in order to extend the lifetime of the cranes. The works include the replacement of the current spreaders by Bromma spreaders that will be supplied as part of the retrofit works.

Admiral Alaa el-din Nada, Chairman of ACCHCO said: "This is a very important project for ACCHCO as our STS cranes are the key equipment to develop our daily container handling activity. We chose Kalmar to carry out the retrofit project as we consider Kalmar as one of the most reliable companies to execute this type of highly specialised project."

The project is carried out by the Kalmar Crane Upgrades specialists in South EMEA. Kalmar has five regional Crane Upgrades competence centres around the globe.
