Kongsberg's LARS for Ocean Infinity's Armada Robotic Ships

Genoa, Italy based Rimorchiatori Riuniti Group took delivery in February of a modified version of Robert Allan Ltd.'s TRAktor 2500-SX standard design from Turkih builder Sanmar Shipyards.The addition of Italia, a modern Z-drive tractor to their fleet could potentially signal a renewed interest in Z-drive tractor tugs for the group.Robert Allan Ltd. and Sanmar Shipyards worked with Rimorchiatori Riuniti to modify the design to suit the owner's requirements. MacGregor to Equip USCG Polar Security Cutter

Marine equipment supplier MacGregor said it has received an order from shipbuilder VT Halter Marine to supply deck machinery and cargo handling equipment to the U.S. Coast Guard Polar Security Cutter (PSC) program. The order is booked into Cargotec’s fourth quarter 2019 order intake, with delivery planned to take place in the third quarter of 2021.According to MacGregor, the Scope of supply comprises anchor windlass, mooring winches and capstans, main towing winch, offshore cranes, oceanographic winch, hanger overhead crane and cargo access equipment.

Tianjin Port Adds ASD 35/50 Tug

Northern China  Port of Tianjin has taken delivery of Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) Tug Jin Gang Lun 33 from the Shanghai Harbour Fuxing Shipping Service Company shipyard.The ASD 35/50 Tug is joining the Port’s tugboat fleet and serves the main roles of harbour towing, berthing and unberthing visiting vessels.Following Jin Gang Lun 31 and Jin Gang Lun 32 which were delivered to Tianjin Port early this year, Jin Gang Lun 33 is also custom designed in Canada by the Vancouver based naval architects Robert Allan Ltd.

Kolkata-based defence shipyard Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) launched the Fifth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) for the Indian Coast Guard at Raja Bagan Dockyard Unit of GRSE, Kolkata.This ship, to be commissioned as ICGS Kanaklata Barua, is the last in the series of Five FPVs built by GRSE. Upholding the best of maritime traditions, the shipwas “Launched” by Smt. Veena Ajay Kumar, wife of Dr. Ajay Kumar, IAS, Secretary Defence (Production) who was present at the occasion as the Chief Guest.This ship is 50M long, 7.5M wide and has a displacement of around 308 Tons.

Kongsberg Maritime will supply a Power & Propulsion System for a new LNG powered multi-purpose cargo vessel of design MM85CC LNG by Multi Maritime.The clean and efficient Kongsberg Maritime propulsion system features a Bergen B36:45L6PG gas engine and LNG control and safety system, a Promas controllable pitch propeller and rudder system, together with a battery pack to enable periods of emission free operation in ports and environmentally sensitive areas.The 3,500dwt vessel is currently under construction at Tersan Shipyard, Turkey, for Norwegian ship owner Egil Ulvan Rederi AS.

W&D to Build Two ASD Tugs for Moran Towing

Washburn & Doughty, of East Boothbay, Maine, has announced the execution of a new vessel construction contract with Moran Towing Corporation, of New Canaan, Connecticut, to build two 86’ x 36’ ASD-Type Ship Assist and Escort Z-Drive Tugs, with options to build up to ten vessels.In addition to the two firm tugs, which will be delivered in 2020, the contract provides Moran with four, two-tug options keyed to production milestones of the tugs then under construction.W&D’s team of in-house naval architects and designers will complete the production designs for the new 86’ tugs based on the contract plans and regulatory package prepared by Jensen Maritime Consultants, Inc.

Schoellhorn-Albrecht Deck Machinery for Ice Breaking Tug

Schoellhorn-Albrecht recently completed a contract to design and manufacture a Vertical Anchor Windlass and Thru Deck Capstan for St. Lawrence Seaways newest Ice Breaking Tug.The windlass was designed to ABS standards for a minimum design temperature of -25F°. Testing and certification was witnessed by ABS in our St. Louis facility. The Thru-Deck Capstan features a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) control package, a right angle drive gearbox, 20 HP marine duty motor and 18” diameter barrel.

Jensen Maritime Provides Design for Shaver's New Tugboat

Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, has provided the detailed design for Shaver Transportation Company’s new, Z-drive tug – Samantha S. The multi-purpose tug was built at Diversified Marine Inc., in Portland, Ore., and is operating along the West Coast. The tug is ABS-classed and carries a FFV1 firefighting notation.The 112-foot by 44-foot tug has a 22-foot draft, was built for escort, ocean towing and ship assist, and has firefighting capabilities if needed. The tug features a raised pilot house and a squared forward end.
