Evac On Board Atlântico Sul Shipyard's New Tankers

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

October 5, 2011

Evac's complete wastewater system is onboard MT João Cândido, the first Suezmax tanker recently delivered by Atlântico Sul Shipyard (EAS) for Transpetro. Evac was selected for the first series of ten 160,0000 dwt Suezmax tankers and for the series of five 110,000 dwt Aframax tankers, also being built by Atlântico Sul Shipyard, the largest and most modern shipyard in Brazil.

The delivery of MT João Cândido is a historical milestone for the shipbuilding industry in Brazil. Evac is proud to be a supplier for this vessel. All wastewater on the new tanker is handled and cleaned by Evac's latest water treatment technology. Evac provides a complete wastewater management solution, capable of handling all black (sewage) and grey waters (from galleys, sinks, showers) onboard, meeting the strict environmental requirements of IMO, the International Maritime Organization. The system operates fully automatically with little need for maintenance.

Evac, with headquarters in Finland, is a company in the Zodiac Marine & Pool Group. With more than 30 years on the maritime market, Evac has supplied more than 10,000 ships, including all types of cargo vessels but also cruise liners, passenger ro-ro ferries, vessels and rigs for the Oil & Gas offshore industry, naval vessels, submarines, fast ferries and superyachts. In addition to wastewater technologies, another product line of Evac is complete onboard dry waste and garbage handling system. Evac has been present on the Brazilian market for some 20 years. Important deliveries include the vacuum systems for the Administrativo do Governo de Estado de Minas Gerais - the State Administrators and Governors Palace complex, the Santos Dumont Airport and the Rodoviário Terminal in Rio de Janeiro as well as for the Recife International Airport.

  • Evac's waste management system

Evac's waste management system, including components, is a complete package, making its acquisition and installation simple and efficient. It provides the shipyard and ship owner with a reliable and integrated solution with low installation and operational costs.

  • On the Suezmax tankers, Evac's wastewater system includes:

- Evac's vacuum collection system with ejectors, including the quietest toilets on the market, of Evac 910 type. The system has a very small size and footprint onboard and it uses 80% less water than traditional toilets. The system was built by EAS and Evac in cooperation, with the yard supplying the holding tanks used by Evac's vacuum collection units.
- Evac's MBR 24C type advanced biological membrane-based wastewater treatment plant, based on flat sheet micro-filtration membranes, developed specifically for wastewater treatment. The Evac MBR is directly combined with the Evac vacuum system as a total wastewater management package. In 2010 IMO's new resolution MEPC159 (55) entered into force with new and more stringent limit values for effluent water from marine sewage treatment plants. Evac's wastewater systems meet and surpass these requirements.

  • Recent new products

In addition to the systems supplied for the Suezmax tankers, Evac supplies the OnlineMaxTM vacuum collecting system for higher capacity needs, saving up to 80% in energy consumption. Evac has also introduced the OnlineVacTM vacuum creation system, designed to support an onboard arrangement in which the vacuum source can be situated separately from the wastewater tank. It is particularly well suited for medium- and small-sized vessels, in terms of passenger and crew capacity. It is designed to be easy to maintain and to offer shipowners lower running costs compared to earlier models. Evac now also introduces its third generation ORCA IIITM small footprint physicochemical advanced wastewater treatment unit, ideal also for smaller vessels, such as patrol vessels and offshore support vessel. Meeting the requirements of IMO MEPC 159(55), it is ideally suited for efficient wastewater treatment also for vessels which stay idle part of the time.

In addition, Evac has recently introduced a new wastewater product line branded ComVac™ for the Super Yachts. ComVac™ includes customized toilets and interfaces together with the V16 vacuum pump and ORCA III™. With this new product line, developed for the requirements of the superyacht industry, the entire wastewater system can now be acquired from one supplier- Evac.
