Kiewit to Serve as MCV Shorebase for MWCC

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

July 23, 2013

Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC) announced today that Kiewit Offshore Services (Kiewit) in Ingleside, Texas has been selected as the shorebase location to house equipment to outfit the company's modular capture vessels (MCVs) in the event of a deployment to a deepwater well control event. The equipment, which includes modular processing facilities for the MCVs and the centerpiece of the containment systems, the capping stacks, will be stored, maintained and tested at Kiewit's Ingleside facility near Corpus Christi. This MCV shorebase is one of two shorebase locations for MWCC.

The selection of Kiewit and Ingleside as MWCC's MCV shorebase provider and location plays an important role in ensuring the company remains continuously ready to respond to a deepwater well control incident in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. MWCC selected Kiewit Offshore Services based on its strong experience and ability to meet the requirements needed as an MCV shorebase provider. These features include a large, readily available and skilled workforce, multiple large cranes, sufficient water depth, and a bulkhead able to accommodate both of the MCVs.

According to MWCC, the company's MCVs are an integral part of MWCC's expanded containment system (ECS) that will enhance the company's well containment capabilities in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Unless they are needed to respond to an incident as part of MWCC's system, the two MCVs will remain in service as lightering vessels in the Gulf of Mexico. The MCV shorebase selection is another milestone in the delivery of MWCC's ECS, which began being delivered this year, the company said.

MWCC's expanded system will further advance the company's deepwater well containment technology and capabilities. The ECS will be able to cap and flow a well in up to 10,000 feet of water and will have the capacity to contain up to 100,000 barrels of liquid per day.
