IMO Issues Summary of MEPC Session

The IMO issued summarized the results of the recent session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC). Among other things, the MEPC designated Southern South Africa waters as a Special Area under Annex I of MARPOL; adopted a revised Annex III to MARPOL; adopted revised guidelines on effluent standards; further developed the text of the draft convention on the recycling of ships; and adopted guidelines regarding ballast water management.
