Korean Shipyard Gets Top Sustainability Award

Daiwoo Shipbuilding  & Marine Engineering awarded AAA rating for sustainability management from Eco-Frontier

According to the 2011 company sustainability performance report published by Eco-Frontier, an intangible value assessment company, DSME received their AAA rating after Eco-Frontier had assessed 423 listed companies in Korea and divided them into seven grade levels ranging from AAA to CCC. 50 companies were awarded the AAA rating and DSME was the only recipient from the shipbuilding industry to receive this evaluation.

DSME received an especially high score in environmental aspects such as risks factors, environmental management capacity, and strategic profit opportunity, as well as social aspects such as sustainable governance, human capital, stakeholder capital, products and services, and emerging markets.

DSME' s HSE operations team Executive Vice President Mr. I.B.Lee said, "Corporate social responsibility has been enhanced and its demands have increased around the world. Thus the importance of openness and transparency in corporate sustainability and activities is being emphasized. By increasing our focus on eco-friendly management, DSME is able to continuously develop our environmental value."

DSME also ranked 13th in Korea Joongang Daily`s 2011 report on the 100 green corporations in Korea . In 2010, DSME was selected as one of the top thirty Korean CSR companies and was ranked 14th out of the one hundred listed companies.
