Christopher Hayman, managing director of U.K.-based Seatrade, is scheduled to provide the keynote address on January 15, at the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) Cruise Workshop in Barbados.

Hayman is slated to discuss cruise fleet deployment trends at the opening session, at the Grand Barbados Hotel. "It is a genuine pleasure to have this opportunity, at this critical time for cruising, to interact with leaders of the port community of the Western Hemisphere, because ports obviously play a most integral role in the cruise industry," said Hayman, who is based in Colchester, England.

Hayman earned a history degree from Oxford University before joining the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. in 1970. He returned to England in 1972 and became editor, and later publisher, of Seatrade magazine. He established the first Miami Cruise Conference in 1985 and has grown the event into the industry's largest, the Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention, held each March in Miami Beach. Seatrade now also produces several other cruise conferences throughout the world, in addition to publishing Seatrade Cruise Review and operating the Seatrade Cruise Academy. The January 15-17 AAPA Cruise Workshop is designed for port managers, operations and engineering professionals, cruise facility consultants and marketers. Other discussion topics are scheduled to include an update on international security measures, terminal design considerations, Caribbean cruise challenges, cooperative marketing of cruise destinations, strategic itinerary planning and environmental considerations for cruise lines and ports. The event is to conclude with an optional tour of Barbados port facilities. The workshop is one of a series of professional development seminars held in conjunction with AAPA's Professional Port Manager (PPM) program.
