FAT Testing Complete for M/V George III Main Engines
Pasha Hawaii reports that factory acceptance testing (FAT) of the dual-fueled, MAN Diesel & Turbo ME-GI main engine has been completed for the M/V George III, the first of two 774-ft., U.S. Jones Act, LNG-fueled containerships being built at Keppel AmFELS in Brownsville, TX. The two âOhana Class ves-sels will join the Pasha Hawaii fleet, which provides service to the Hawaii/Mainland trade lane.Each ship will carry 2,525 TEUs at a sailing speed of 23 knots.
Rotor Sail gets Type Approval
Norsepower Oy Ltd., which provides auxiliary wind propulsion for ships, said its Rotor Sail Solution has received the first-ever type approval design certificate granted to an auxiliary wind propulsion system onboard a commercial ship.The type approval from DNV GL was issued in February 2019 after a design assessment of Norsepowerâs 30- x 5-m Rotor Sail, two of which have been installed onboard the Maersk Pelican LR2 tanker.
Cruise Passenger Rescued by HSC-25
Sailors from the Guam-based âIsland Knightsâ of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 25 provided emergency assistance to a cruise passenger in distress early Monday, March 4.At approximately 9:45 p.m. Sunday, March 3, HSC-25 was notified by U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam that a passenger aboard MV Arcadia was experiencing a medical emergency. After Arcadia transited within helicopter range of Guam, a rescue mission was launched at 5:45 a.m.
