Maersk Line Deploys First Second-gen Triple-E
Four years after the arrival of the first Triple-E vessel, Maersk Line has now deployed Madrid Maersk, the first of its second-generation Triple-E containerships. With nearly 2,000 more TEU capacity than the prior generation Triple Es, the 20,568 TEU (nominal capacity) Madrid Maersk has set sail on Maersk Line’s Asia – Europe service network, calling the Port of Tianjin in China on April 27 as its first port on its maiden voyage.
Seacat Services Launches Two Vessels
Offshore energy support vessel (OESV) operator Seacat Services has completed its latest investment in its fleet, launching two vessels with the capacity for 24 industrial personnel – the newly-accepted Seacat Enterprise, and the upgraded Seacat Courageous. These boats are among the first wave of offshore energy support vessels to be certified under the new HS-OSC (High Speed – Offshore Service Craft) code, which now allows vessels under 500 metric tons to carry up to 60 industrial personnel.
Weaker Vessel Rates Weigh on Baltic Index
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, fell for the tenth straight session on Tuesday, hurt by weaker rates across all vessel segments. At a recent event at its headquarters in Gorinchem, Damen Shipyards demonstrated its next generation composite Water Bus, the 2407, to an invited international audience. Built from FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) the new class will give operators reduced fuel consumption, less maintenance, no corrosion or fatigue problems and a durable structure, the shipbuilder said. Fourth LNG-powered OSV for Harvey Gulf
Harvey Gulf International Marine said it has accepted delivery of its fourth liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered offshore supply vessel (OSV). The M/V Harvey Freedom, built at Gulf Coast Shipyard Group in Gulfport, Miss. is 310’ x 64’ x 24.5’, U.S. Flagged Subchapter I and L, SOLAS compliant and capable of carrying 253,000 USG of fuel oil, 18,000 bbls of liquid mud, 1,600 bbls of methanol, 10,250ft3 of dry cement and 78,000 USG of LNG fuel.
